A darkened room...

A large ebony table, around which are seated several shadowy figures, all
clothed in black. The table is bare save large burnished steel goblets at
every place, and a large decanter at one end.

A larger and more foreboding figure is seated at the table's head in an
impressive high-backed chair. He makes an almost imperceptible gesture to the
figure on his his left, who takes the decanter, uncorks it, fills his goblet,
and passes it to his left. The decanter continues to be passed to each one
until all the glasses are charged.

The apparent leader, his eyes gleaming with an eerie red glow, rises, extends
his goblet towards the table's center, and states, "The Dark Lord on High."

The figure to his right rises, and addressing the others, says, "Gentlemen, the
Dark Lord on High!"

The rest of this wraith-like host stand in unison, and their voices raised in a
dark chorus, declare, "THE DARK LORD ON HIGH!"

HEAR YE, HEAR YE!!!

This All Hallow's Eve we celebrate an anniversary...and considering its nature,
the date of the anniversary is quite apropos.

One year ago this day, Tom Dowd was crowned DARK LORD ON HIGH. In celebration
of this event, I shall include the definition of this office, as described in
the soon to be unveiled ShadowRun Lexicon...

The Dark Lord on High

A reference to Tom Dowd, who helped in conceiving of, designing, and
formulating the rules of the game ShadowRun. His title, originally
conceived of and used by Doctor Doom, (on 31 Oct 92, 01:11:46) derives
from his position at the FASA offices which designates him as the
individual to which all questions regarding rules for the ShadowRun
Game System are forwarded, logically owing to his involvement in the
project.

Several members of this list contact him periodically, seeking his
wisdom in instances where the rules are either seemingly contradictory,
too vague for singular interpretation, or simply do not existent for a
particular situation. He is considered by many to be the a sort of
Final Arbiter, an Ultimate Adjudicator for such matters.

And, yes, he is aware that we refer to him as such.

So, for those of you who decide to proceed forth into the night, haunting the
'normals', at some time in your revelry, do raise a glass in honor of and in
tribute to the Dark High Lord.

Colonel Count von Hohenzollern und von Doom, DMSc, DSc, PhD.
