The matrix (and the rest of SR's computer stuff) has *very little* in
common with RL computer stuff, even though it could have been based on it.
I believe FASA has explained why this is: so they don't looks tupid when
their concepts for the matrix/computers get overtaken by the real thing,
like Traveller's computers.

Paul was very keen on using RL concepts when doing VR2.0. Many were
the disscussions about what to add and what not to add. Paul used
his background and that of people he knew to try to keep VR2.0 as
realistic as possible, but also had to make it shadowruny enough for
the general public.

As a side note, Paul is heavily into magic and used a lot of RL magic
type stuff when he did the grimiore as well.

VR 2.0 is much better than 1.0 in many respects, and this is one of them,
IMO. I mean, using the matrix with the new rules is much more like logging
onto a host now than all the business with the nodes ever was.
