I have been having the same problem. Two days ago (I think), I
tried to reply to Gurth's post about alcohol allergies but my
message never made it to the list. That is when I first noticed
the problem.
Just a brief explanation on why the different alcohols can
still cause an allergic reaction. All alcohols are detoxified
in the body by an enzyme called "Aldehyde Dehydrogenase." If
this enzyme doesn't work right (which could be the cause of the
allergy), then all the alcohols (menthanol, ethanol, etc.) would
cause a reaction. Also, coming in contact with the alcohol on a
surface (such as one that has just been wiped down with isopropyl)
would cause a reaction. I can base this off the drug Antabuse.
This drug inhibits the enzyme listed above. People who take it
can even have reactions to the alcohol in their aftershaves.
