I was making a Troll character for an IRC game, and I needed some
points so I opted for some allergies. In the severity listing, it lists
"Moderate", but I couldn't find the penalties associated with it in the
critters section. Where is it?

Please tell me it it's hidden like the damage for cyberspurs...

Look in the section on critter weaknesses. Just make sure that you don't
look up Moderate in that section. It will probably be of different
seriousness level. Simply find out how dealy moderate is (third worst
allergy I think) and use the stats for the third worst allergy in the
critters section.

That probably didn't make much sense, but you'll work it out.

Ray.

Because in the "Allergies (Optional)" section, it says "Consult
the description of allergies and severities on p. 220 of the Critters
section for more information."

Okay, let's settle this problem, too. This is aother one of the SR1 -->
SR2 mistakes. In SR1, the exact effects of allergies were listed in the
character generation chapter, and they used slightly different names for
the severity than for critter allergies. There also were two tables to
roll on, to see which random allergy you got. (Allergies did not give
extra points for your character, either.)

It goes like this, on page 52 of SR1 (copyright 1989 FASA corp and all
that):

ALLERGIES

Each metahuman race, or subspecies of Homo sapiens, offers variations on
the basic theme, advantages and disadvantages. You probably have noticed
that only two of the Archetypes specify metahuman races. Any metahuman
race can be any Archetype. Of course, some are better at certain things
than others.
In any case, all members of the metahuman races are allergic to some
substance. Remember that whenever you take a metahuman as your character,
you must roll on the following tables.

ALLERGIC REACTION TABLE
2D6 Substance
2 Silver
3-5 Plastic
6-8 Sunlight
9-11 Iron
12 Two substances (Roll again, ignoring 12)

DEGREE OF SEVERITY
2D6 Effects of Contact
2-6 Nuissance
7-8 Mild
9-10 Moderate
11-12 Severe

SUBSTANCES
IRON refers to any ferrous metal, such as steel or any variety of steel
alloys. This makes the use of most weapons and firearms hazardous to the
metahuman.
PLASTIC refers to all synthetic materials. A metahuman with this allergy
could not use most ballistic armor or Cyberware.
SILVER is the mystic lunar metal. This allergy makes some jewelry
hazardous.
SUNLIGHT refers to natural light. Beings who are allergic to sunlight are
also allergic to X-rays.

SEVERITY
NUISSANCE means that contact with the substance annoys the character.
A MILD reaction means the character is continually distracted when in
contact with the substance (+1 to all Target Numbers).
A MODERATE reaction means that the character is affected with a Mild
reaction, and must make periodic checks to avoid a Severe reaction. Make a
Resistance Test using the Body or Willpower Attribute, whichever is
smaller. The frequency of the check is one hour times the Body Attribute.
The Target Number is 6.
A SEVERE reaction means the character must add 1 to all Target Numbers
whenever he is in contact with the substance. In addition, contact with
the substance causes a Light wound. There is no roll to avoid this damage.
Continued contact causes an additional Light woudn periodically. The
period before the nextwound is a number of minutes equal to the
character's Body Attribute. Thus, a character with a Body Attribute of 3
who has a severe reaction to an item receives an additional Light wound
every 3 minutes that he remains in contact with that item.
