Well, its offical now. Almost exactly this rule apears on P. 113 of
MiTS, although I could not find a simlar refrence in The Grimoire (in fact,
it seesm a modification to a very similar passage on p.72 of The Grimoiore).
The waiting or quest is required, but no summoning ritual is not, as the
ally spirit is still bound to its creator.
