I know I've brought this up before, but it's become an issue.

I need to know how Ally spirits take damage when combating a mage.
I assume spirit to spirit combat is resolved par usual, consisting of
basically melee combat with force dice.

But:
Say, my force 4 ally spirit comes up against a mage with a sorcery skill of
5 who is astrally projecting. How is combat resolved? Does an ally spirit
have a damage table like physical damage, or do they just lose force points?

Don't hurt me. I'm fragile.

That's my idea too.

As per the normal astral combat rules: in essence, melee combat using the
magician's Sorcery or Unarmed Combat skill and the spirit's Reaction
(because it's a critter), which equals its Force. See page 148 of SRII:
"Combat with magical creatures follows the general rules for the
environment, physical or astral, where the battle is taking place."

The magician would cause (Charisma)L damage, either Stun or Physical as
the character chooses, while the spirit does (Force)M, also Stun or
Physical as the spirit chooses (SRII p. 147).

I don't see why a spirit should not have a normal condition monitor like
everyone else. It's not mentioned anywhere I can remember that they don't,
so that must mean they do :)

Sounds reasonable.

Personally I'd say it uses a damage track. I made a homonculus body
for my ally just in case. It uses its physical stats and fights as a
dual-natured critter (not that it has EVER fought anything). It gets
armor and a fair amount more body to resist damage (base body for the
type of critter + force). No, I'm not paranoid, just over-protective.

Spirits have condition monitors but no overflow. 2nd paragraph pg 65
Grimoire II "Each spirit recovers 1 point (1 box) of damage on its
Condition Monitor per minute it spends out of combat." Also note that
stun damage does not overflow as normal... Stun damage dirupts the spirit
for (28-force) days ... except for watchers, who are always "killed" by
stun damage. (All on Pg 64 of grimmy II)

What IS an ally spirits reaction??? Easy to calculate, given the
stats- are those stats used in astral space, also?
Why couldn't the ally use socery skill, or unarmed, just like a mage?

I think the Reaction is it's Force, with appropriate modifiers for initiative
as per spirit rules (unless it's using Inhabitation). As for using Sorcery Or
Unarmed, I don't see why not, especially since the ally gets Sorcery Skill
equal to it's creator's at the time of it's creation.
