I just got a rather abrupt message from Gurth about not reading before I
post...... That kind of led me to believe that I'm pissing certain people
off around here with the amount of posts that I make.

Maybe I'm being a bit sensitive....

Please tell me; If I am annoying, I'll shut up.

I don't imagine you're pissing people off. I think Gurth was just trying
to tell you that it might be best to check a spell description before you
attribute references to it which aren't factually correct, as this can
start a "WHERE does it say that?????!!!!" debate :)

I'm kind of handcapped in that I currently do not own any of the
sourcebooks... I sold them all due to financial problems last year.
Anything I write is from memory, which is why I cannot supply page
references or quotations.....

I often talk like I'm god, but I *know* I'm not always right.... Hell, I
could have sworn that that was how the invisibility spell was quoted as
working.

If I stuff up again, just correct me... as far as the invisibility spell
goes, it really makes no difference whether you absorb or bend the light.

No your not pissing people off around here with the number of posts you
make, good grief if that was the case, then, Bull, Tinner, Granite and I
would all be piles of ashes by now. And we tend to be the *least*
serious people here.

I think you'll find that the reason Gurth had a moan at you was that you
made a mistake in one of your posts regarding invisibility, and he was
suggesting that you read the whole thread before replying to one part of
it, it's very easy to make a mistake if you don't know what the original
or previous comments were, if you are unsure, and you mailer is showing
a half empty thread, it is possible to request back dated posts through
the thread line, I don't know how your mailer handles it, but mine
allows me to double click on an empty box in a thread, and it will
request that post next time I'm on line. I think (though I may be wrong)
that most mailers allow you to request previous posts.

A little, but that's OK, we all are sometimes.
I suspect you may have caught Gurth on a bad day, he's normally a pretty
good duy, and usually very tolerant. He's had to be with me posting in
here. Gosh when I think of the crap I've stuck on this list, I'm
stunned he hasn't given me a sound thwapping yet :)

No not annoying, but before you post, try to make sure you know what the
question was, and which side of the argument you are coming in on. Oh,
I'm sorry did I say argument, what I meant was - debate. :)

Don't feel too put off. We all make mistakes. It's not too seriousm
unless yuor comments are a little out of line. :)

Besides, what's the point of posting anything if you can't piss SOMEONE

True enough..... I post a lot of stuff here to see the reaction, more
than anything else... But I don't expect people to have their own
veiwpoints and for them to cling to them so fervently.
I don't take well-directed criticism that well, either.

I could never be a missionary; I get pissed off too easily. *grin*

Hey, I know about the shotgun thing; I've had someone crash an entire
chat server and try for our Uni system because I was flaming them (for 8
hours stright,. mind you).

My brother had someone threaten to take a plane over from New Zealand, and
kneecap him... he responded by supplying an address and phone number.

It wasn't meant as a flame (and neither is this), but from many of your
posts I get the impression you feel you know all about the SR universe and
you see your interpretation as being the right one. I'm not saying this is
a bad thing, but I also have the idea that this means you're not all that
open to others' thoughts about it.

I could be wrong, of course :)

I must also confess that I had failed to read that line about physical
illusion spells bending light, though I'm still not conviced that improved
invisibility works that way -- how do you see where you're going, if the
spell bends light around you?

Yeah.. I know I give that impression. My friends live in (quasi) fear of
me, because I usually have something to say about any given topic, and
it's often right when it concerns SR (though not always). I guess it's
depending on whether I'm asking a question, or stating what I think is a fact.

Just take anything I say lightly, and ignore the tone of my reply...

I hope I'm not going to get the nickname of the next list-member-grumpy
*grin*

BTW if I wasn't getting good ideas off this list, I wouldn't be here.

Hey, does it have to have a logical explanation?? It's MAGIC *grin*

Personally I prefer the absorbing version of the spell, but I thought I'd
read that it bends light instead, so that's what I posted.

In defense of Marty, I do have to add my two sense in...:)

The bending teh light explaination is the mos common explaination used to
explain invisibliity, whether you're talking RPG's, novels, movies, etc.
Marvel Comics and DC both use that to explain their Invisibility Superpower.
That was the explanation given in Predator (thus the warped outlin as teh
light is "bent"). And in general, probably half the people who play
shadowrun would say that that is how the spell works. It's magic... I
personally don't need an explanation for "how" it works, I just need to know
Whether or Not it works, and go from there.

Granted, Marty does (innocent grin at Marty) tend to sound a bit cocky, but
then so do we all at time...:) YOucertainly do at times, Gurth, and I know
I do to... That's why i add copious ammounts of Smileys to every
post...:):):) Just to make sure that nobody takes me too seriously... If I
don't use the smileys, then you know I'm serious or pissed...:)

I guess the point is this... We all have opinions, and they will get
stated. Marty's explanation does have a lot of merit in mainstream fantasy
and sci-fi culture. I don't know how they see if the light is bent around
them, and have never heard anyone try yto explain it, either. <shrug>
Maybe it's not that important.:)

Oh well, just my thoughts and comments..:)
