The only thing a side mounted ammo counter would accomplish is letting
the bad guys know how much ammo you've got left. I imagine it would also
work great at night. Think of a whole squad of soldiers sneaking around,
trying to be slick and wiley, but you can see 'em for miles because of
their bobbing red LCD ammo counters. Refer to the movie _Aliens_ for a good
example of ammo counters (the marines' pulse rifles had big, fat, red ones).

you were thinking of LED which actually shines red (or green or yellow,
or whatever)

I allow the people with smartgun to have a visual display of current am=
mo
load, safety position and fire mode in a visual display. Either on thei=
r
retina for c/ware or projected onto the goggles.
