Well, after reading this thread and re-reading R:AS (I was bored
yesterday), an evil idea popped up in my head.

Anyone saw the movie Cube?

[evil grin]

What I was thinking about was giving the players a list of character
archetypes and having each of them choose one.
I'm wondering, tho, if those archetypes should be mainly shadworunners, mob
soldiers and other characters used to combat and security devices, or if
they should be mostly "normals" with a street sam/mage thrown in to make
sure they stay alive for some time? Or maybe a member of Red Samurai, who
found out about the shtuodwn *before* it happened, was drugged, woke up in
in a maze?

You should put some "normal" in the list if not most
of them. I had a campaign going on in RA:S where I had
2 Security Red Samurai, 1 doctor with minimal fighting
experience and a programmer with almost no fighting
experience. They were all employees of Renraku when it
shut down. I gave them minimal ressources and it was
the best games we had, with lots of ideas, and
planning like I rarely seen in a game.

A must see for the monofilament net at the very beginning. A guy
hits a trap and falls into pieces. Neat demonstration of monofilament.

I ran an Arcology game recently, where I made 5 characters and
had all of the players choose one, ranging from Red Samurai to
a scared 16 year old girl. I eventually finagled a way to get them
to meet (separated into different parts of the Arco), and they had
to work their way past the various dangers of the Arcology (There
was an interesting segment when one of the characters was
running to divert the attention of 5 Medusae. It was Aliens-esque).
The weird thing was that parts of the Arcology seemed to be
totally untouched... there were residents who thought everything
was normal.

They found out a few sessions later (after discovering several
bizarre "magical" events) that the whole time, they were actually
jacked into the UV system, along with many of the other arcology
residents. They were running in a "virtual" arcology, set up a la
Matrix to dupe the minds of the residents trapped in the arcology
(Obviously, Deus needs all those minds in his "great plan" at the
end of Brainscan, not spoiling what the "great plan" is for you
readers out there). When they finally escaped and jacked out,
then the REAL escape began. 2 of the characters died, and
had to be replaced with other characters (a resistance fighter
and an otaku), but a lot of fun was had by all. The best part was
the last session jacked into the UV node, when the players all
realized that they were in a UV node. Then they started to use
their Computer skills (all the characters had a 4 or higher) to
start pulling twists of the computer-generated reality. There was
an especially suspenseful swordplay session against some of
Deus's otaku, everyone armed w/ a blade of some sort and
performing Adept-like maneuvers on each other.

Yep. I even recommended it to the list for those GMing a RA:S campaign a
few months back.

Exactly :)

Someone who knows what they're doing would be good :) You could do this
with just about any group of characters, though obviously if everyone is
playing a street sam then things can be made a lot tougher on them.

If you want to run an adventure like this, IMO the only thing you need to
make sure of is the PCs will have a wide range of skills regardless of
which character types the player choose. This is not all that easy, because
the players could all pick characters with the same skills -- unless you
first let them choose and only create the characters (or at least their
skill lists) after that.

The origional plot of the movie "The Matrix" was very similar to this, and
set in the shadowrun universe, at least, that's what I've heard.

i have a sugestion for you. What if it is a test by Dues. Yes I can see it
now. The "People" wake up in the middle of this cube that is acctualy in
the middle of the archology. (heh heh heh).
Speaking of Deus and the Archology, what ever happened with it. First thing
I know, Dues is running it and the Archology is shut down. The next thing I
know (a la Matrix and Target Matrix) Renraku and UCAS has retaken it. What
book(s) did this happen in. More information for the ignorant please!

Thank you

- do the voices in my head bother you?

Brainscan. Reading that one clears up a LOT of things... 'course
now I must forget everything since I'm playing the module.
