First:

>Many of the huge number of mailing yesterday were my fault. Some
kind of hiccup in the network led to a half-dozen things getting hung up,
so I reposted them, and then the hung ones showed up (neary 36 hours
late). For that I apologize.

Second:
>These lists are SUPPOSED to get a lot of traffic. SHADOWRN is
pretty mediocre for # of postings. If you really want to get mail-bombed,
try subscribing to ADND-L or STREK-L, both easily (way back when I was on
them) amounted to 300+ postings PER DAY. 100 postings on SHADOWRN is
strange but I also think it is good. We are here to discuss facets of
Shadowrun. During that discussion we might cover many topics and have
many arguments and many different ideas.

Third:
>I believe this does illustrate the need for a "shadowbabble" list,
though. Fully 1/2 of the posts in the past 24 hours would qualify as that.

Fourth:
>For those of you on limited space, I would recommend asking your
sysadmin about getting a boost. They may seem like mean schmucks, but
explain to them that the extra quota, when you use it, would only be used
temporarily. Explain to them that the usually dead mailing list is
becomming very active and blowing your account. Asking doesn't hurt as
the worst they can say is no. I have yet to ever meet a sysadmin that
didn't grant a user request for something as trivial as more space.

Fifth:
>Please use complete subject lines. If it is babble, please label
it as such. If you are responding to someone elses post, the correct
subject is usually "Re: <subject>". And don't quote everything they
said, just quote enough to remind people what was said and to point out
what specific points your are commenting on. Otherwise it is a waste of
space.

Six:
>There has never been a two-post a day limit on this list...ever.
Two posts a day is a hold-over from ADND-L back when they had a week of
solid 1200+ posts per day. I personally think two posts a day would
cripple discussion on here and generally be more hassle than it is worth.
Granted, people will get more mailings, but they will also get a better
quality of posting.

Seven:
>Never forget that some people are new to computers and may make
mistakes. And sometimes seasoned veterans make mistakes. We are only
human, no matter how much cyberwear we may have.

Eight:
>Remember that rational discussion will always be more effective
than senseless flamage, which usually leads to more mail anyways.

Nine:
>Never forget that if it gets too much, or you dislike the way
things happen, you do have the choice to signoff. We'd hate to lose you,
though.

Ten:
>Above all, we are here to have fun. Let's try to do that.
