Thank you all for the responses. I have just two more points. First is can
flame get through a physical barrier. All these barrier questions have come
up in recent games on this campus and were never really resolved.

Second, I am having an argument with someone on campus regarding conjuring
adepts. Is there any reason they should have a magic rating higher than
one? I have made a cybered conjuring adept in the past.

I believe flames are either gas or plasma (smaller than a gas) and as
such a Barrier spell would provide no protection. A fire also gives
out a fair amount of heat as IR; I would not make a Barrier spell any
protection from that, either.

About the only thing a Barrier spell is good for in a fire is keeping
the roof beams from dropping on you too hard.

Then, if this is true <Light bulb appearing above head>, that would mean that
grenade blasts would pass through the barrier! Of course the shrapnel and other
junk would be kept outside, but the shock wave would pass right through <Bein'
just a gas, after all...>

Oh, and I suppose as well, and damagin manipulation with effects of fire or
blast, but not acid? hmm....

An interesting idea, but I believe the success of such an attempt would
depend on how deeply in the drek you were at the time, and wether the
opponent you were trying to use this tactic on is a GM 'favourite'. { You
know the ones I'm talking about, those that fall off a 34 storie building,
yet live to chase you another day (Kyle Morgan in question) }.
