Truth is stranger than fiction sometimes...

Schwarzenegger will run for governor in California election
http://www.usatoday.com/news/politicselections/2003-08-06-arnold_x.htm

I think there's a ref to a "senator schwarzenegger" in a sourcebook. I guess
he could make the jump.

Add him to Larry Flint and Gary Coleman on the list of celebrity candidates.

Yea me to, anyway, I also seem to remember something about him being refered
to as the president by Stilone in the movie "Demolition Man" - odd how
these things seem to keep popping up.

Never mind that, this isn't the first time a star of the movie Predator has
run.

They pass the "President Schwarzenneger Memorial Library" at one point -
apparently Arnie was so popular, they amended the Constitution to let
him run.

And it all come down to one poll, which IIRC asked a whole bunch of
Americans who they'd vote for out of a list of "candidates". They were
basically out to prove that your polotics didn't really matter, that "brand
recognition" was what won elections.
Arnie came out top of the poll by a large margin despite the fact that he
couldn't even stand IIRC.

LOL, I find this whole thread very amusing when I look
at Australian politics & compare It to the whole
"Arnie" for governor of California. We've (Australia)
just sworn in our new Governor General, Major General
Jeffery, ex SAS commander & unlike "Arnie" a RL action
hero ;)

GZ- No disrespect Mr president, but while you were
making movies, taunting "Terminators", & thinking of
really cool but corny lines, Jeffery's was playing the
real Mcoy & popping melons in the name of "Queen &
country" for a overseas faraway sovereinty ;)

I thought you said he wasn't an actor? So did he play a whiskey smuggler in
some amateur drama society on his days off from the ASAS or something? :)

I have to take exception to this pack of lies. Arnie most certainly did
not think of any 'really cool but corny lines;' they were all written for him.

Just wanted to clear that up.

You mean Jesse The Governor Ventura? People also seem to forget
Jesse was a SEAL before being a WWF wrestler.

Before this even thinks about getting out of hand... Im Aussie. I dont know
squat about the history of Jesse Ventura. I do know he was a
media/entertainment figure before running though - and that many thought he
didnt have the ability to get in or stay in.

Then again.. Regan was an actor :)

Actually, Ventura was a small town mayor some years ago.

Just goes to show doesn't It, actors are perfect
candidates for presidency, they're well versed in
pushing the bullshitametre of beleivability, attract
huge crowds of supporters/groupies & know how to lie
convincingly, otherwise you wouldn't watch their
tragic films If you couldn't beleive what they're
playin' at. Oh I almost forgot, most important of all
is the puppets; they still don't need to write their
own lines :)

With all due respect, who cares? A politician's RL combat experience has no
bearing on his or her ability to govern, only on their knowledge of the
military machine. It might make them more attractive candidates to those
flag-wavers who sleep with Guns & Ammo under their pillow, but that's about
it.

And while I have no strong feelings about Arnie's campaign either way, it
bugs me when people assume that just because somebody is a "corny" movie
action hero they are automatically incapable of intelligent thought or
personal ambition beyond their celebrity profession. Let's not forget the
point of democratic public office, which is that any citizen may campaign to
occupy it.

Oh, and as for the gun-toting former green beret politicians of the world,
we've seen just as many lousy combat-veteran public servants over the years
as those who came from more "ordinary" backgrounds.

Entirely - I mean honestly, how many times have you seen the Governor
General go out shooting people? Even in the most tumultuous time, all he
ever did was call for an election.

From what I understand, while he DOES make large amounts of money at
the box office, he also makes fairly serious quantities of money from
various business investments. Knowing how to manage a business is
probably one of the more important skills for a politician to have (from
the point of view of his constituency).

Well as Governor General IMHO I think It's a necessary
requirement as well as proving yourself to the
patriotic & the honour of your title of
responsability, as you are representing the Queen.

I was just having a little light humour at Arnie's
expence, no real malice intended, I think It's really
cool & as his already so popular In his acting career
he'll already have great support so should go well in
his governorship campaign. I have no doubts contrary
to my mocking statements before that Arnie is quite
capable & Intelligent enough for the role (no pun
intended :)

GZ - Oh please forgive me great Slayer as I have
already incurred your great wrath, I think I am much
to tough for your liking & would rather something less
demeaning be smothered on my cindered corpse, maybe
chilli sauce If I may be as so bold :)
