An evil idea I had for an NPC to use on Power Focus Boy (one of my
players who spent most of his starting nuyen on foci).

Could an astral mage ground magic fingers through a focus, to cause
the focus to fly away?

hmmm, I feel, that you cannot cast a manipulation spell of that nature in
astral space. The physical-phsysical semytry (sp?) isn't there... but for
the same of harrassment I supporst an NPC could use a modified version of
the spell (probably non maniputaion) and do it... of course I wouldn't let a
player get a hold of the spell...

Heh. Can we say, "flaming beacon of an astral target?"

No. Grounding by definition overcomes the resistance of the
focus, which by definition destroys that focus. So maybe the slag of
whatever was leftover after the spell grounded out would fly away, but it
would be useless.

Why not just destroy the link? It costs a fortune in karma to rebond to
foci.

Thanks for the replies.

Turns out, it didn't matter.

Our astrally projecting mage mage won initiative and rolled a really beefy
manabolt - almost killing their astrally projecting mage.

Fortunately, after that, Power Focus Boy was hiding from Lone Star, and
Astral Girl was futilly trying to smoke their werewolf. Best they could
do was Magic finger a silver (fetish) coin up to it and hold it on.

You cannot ground a manipulation spell. You can only ground combat
spells, and they must be physical spells. Anything else will stop at
the destruction of the focus.
