Ok, starting up a game with some excited players.

But we came to a snag. Can Smartlink be coupled with an Image Mag system?
I've looked over the book and there's nothing saying its possible or
impossible.
A page number would be helpful...

There is no rule that prohibits it, AFAIK, and I've always ruled that the
two _can_ be combined. This because a cyberware smartlink should be able
to compensate for the distortion caused by cyberware vision mag, IMHO.
OTOH, if one of the two is cyberware and the other isn't, then I've always
ruled that you can use one or the other, but not both at the same time --
for the reason that neither of the two systems "knows" of the other's
existence, and so does not compensate for it.

The Tables in the Cannon Companion give an indication...
More solid evidence can be found on pages 280 & 300 of SR3 (Mine's the
Eleventh printing, though I doubt that will change anything, check the
Errata to be sure) On 280 the section on Imaging Scopes reads:
... Imaging scopes may only be top-mounted, may not be used with smartlink
systems, and require one Complex action to install or remove...

On 300 the Vision Magnification cyberware description begins:
This enhancement magnifies the visual image in the same manner as an
imaging scope...

Couple this with the fact that there is a column for Laser sight + Image
mag but none for Smartlink + Image mag IIRC and my ruling is... Impossible.

I know this isn't the answer you want, but our group
used to do this all
the time. We didn't use both at once, but being able
to pick the better
of the two is very nice. I think your TN is something
like 2/3/4/4. It
was so powerful we did it even without any stacking
ability, which is a
good sign you don't need any house rules that let them
stack.

The officiel SR FAQ states that *no* magnification system (be it
cyber, magic or oldschool) can be combined with a smartlink. You can
have both installed, but only one works at a given time (user's
choice).
