needed is that it surrounds a steel round which doesn't deform on impact so it
can chop right through body armor. All the teflon does is keep you from
having to replace your barrel ever couple hundred rounds.
The APDS rounds are simply downsized versions of anti tank rounds. The have a
high aspect ratio which cuts down on drag, and increases the psi of the
impact, the same principle is what makes a sharp knife cut easier then a dull
one.
Any round used with a silencer must be subsonic, so the velocity losses
associated with a silencer can be accounted for in the powder charge.
