I am using a different mailer for this, so there shouldn't be any
attachments.

I apologize for the attachments, especially since people have told me
about them before.

However, in my testing, I have never seen any attachment on any of my
e-mail messages, except those rebroadcast by the listserver. If I mail a
message to the listserver, and cc it to myself, the copy that ends up in
my UNIX mailbox has no attachments. The copy the listserver sends me of
the message does. (For reference, the address
jhurley1@******.stevens-tech.edu is my account on my school's IRIX
platform. I read mail on that platfrom with PINE. I usually download my
mail with POP3 using MS-exchange, and use that as my primary
reader/writer.)

In short, e-mail i write to personal addresses does not have attachments,
so I thought the attachments problem was solved. As the problem only
manifests in the forwarded message from the listserver, I submit that it
is not merely a fault with my software, so please don't tell me to change
my mailer.

I submit that you're wrong. There is no way that the listserver
is adding those attachments to the message.

I wount, you may leave Shado... wait, No, I don't want that.
Problem is, MS-Exchange does try to explain to everyone one needs to have font
sizes, bold, underlined, or whatever text styles in one's mail, and attaches
the needed data as kind-of-rtf to the mail. I don't know if there's a way to
change that, I didn't find it and changed to Pegasus Mail (which is more
user-friendly IMHO anyways... :-)

Since some people are just now up-to-date with Bill Gates, and his ideas on
how the net has to work, and his programmers, we just receive an attached data
file that should just tell us: "He didn't change colour, size, or font, you
may read this", but we (and our real archaic mailers) just don't get the idea.
Sorry.

So *that's* what that WinMail.Dat attachment is. If his
friends are using MSMail programs then they recognize the
attachment and don't show it. Likewise he probably isn't
seeing the attachment either because his mailer knows what
it is too.

You know something? For the first time ever, I'm really
glad that I'm using ELM.

You may very well be, since that win-prg (keep forgetting the name, banned it
from any computer I have to work with) is as uncomfortable as elm, just made
this graphic. Thanx, Billy-Boy, now we are happy and know we work on a
MS-machine :-(

(PS: This is not the start of the threa{d|t} how bad MS is, but I learned
about these programs when I earned money with computer installation. I _may_
curse the Win95, since I made my experiences. *starts singing* I want my
Maaaaaaaac back *stops singing*)
