Okay I decided that is unsigned posting deserves line by line attention.

> I don't care what people think about the magic orientation in SR.

Glad to see you are open to other folks ideas. Pray tell then
what are you doing subscribed to this group if not to find out
what other people think? Bad Opening.

> The magic aspect is supposed to make the game fun

We can stop right there. Yeah it suppose to make the game fun;
but not at the cost of the mundane players. I know several deckers
who could give a shatter'd IC's ass about magic. It is only ONE
FACET of the game, not the prime focal point. Anyway let's see
if the rest of this sentence salvages the beginning....

> and besides for a mage to actually become somewhat powerful it would
> take a long time, lots of runs and many sacrifices.

Guess not. Takes alot of time? Hmmm.. yeah I guess alot of time
is needed for the mage to learn one of those Staging 1 Mana
area of effect Mana spells, and maybe 12 hours and 6k nuyen to
bring forth a guaranteed Slay Everyone Area of Effect eh? So
maybe what we are looking at is 7 days if the mage is silly enough
not to take the spell at creation, which I doubt.

How long does it take for a mage to become Powerful pray tell?
They start with the potential to become faster than any cyberware
could hope to speed a Samurai; they have the ability to surpase
Dermal Armour with a simple Armour spell, which is not restricted
to Level 3 as is Dermal Plating. They can use simple health magic
to equal their mundane counterparts rather quickly.

Just curious- what 'sacrifices' are we talking about? They can't
tear out their flesh to replace it with cybernetic enhancements
and only run a guaranteed chance of going cyber-psycho?

Oh gee I really feel sorry for the 'ole spell tossers now.

> Where all the freaking Samuri have to do is get money and say "Duh yeah
> I'll take one a dem new cyberarms"

Gee never knew it was that easy. And I bet Nuyen buys more essence
to buy the nice new cyberlimbs. Get a clue wiz-worm. Cyberware is
a Serious decision in a Samurai's life. If he make the wrong one,
he has to live with it. Not all cyber is yankable. The edge ain't
in da chrome wizzer, its in da user- just like you mumbo-jumbo.

But then again hey, I bet a good Alpha Clinic is real easy to find
in yer neighborhood right chummer? Ever take a look at the target
numbers? Why dontcha try hitting a 12 with *your* Street Etiquette
just to find an Alpha Clinic. And if ya can, then maybe you can
point me to a good Beta Clinic, which is target 15.

So let's say the 'freaking samurai' as you so charmingly put it
does get a new cyberlimb. All he needs to take is one Serious
Wound for the thing to frag out on him, unless of course you
don't use the Cyberware Damage Rules out of the Samurai Catalog.
So when poor little wizworm suffers a Serious Wounds, he can
scurry away and throw one of them Treat Serious Wounds spells
and voila he is all better. When a Samurai gets the serious wounds
he gets to start worrying about which systems are going to shut-
down on him.

I concede when it comes time for Deadly Wounds to be dished out,
you chummers do get to worry about if'n you'll be casting if/when
you wake up (Magic Checks), but Samurai have the same kind of
Cyberware Damage checks to make at Deadly Wounds, with an even
better chance that a system will crap out on him.

Before you go on about Magic Loss, lemme point out one thing-
yeah magic loss is permanent and cyberware can be repaired, but
not always. Considering repairing cyberware could entail messing
around internally, the Samurai could suffer additional essence
loss which he cannot sustain. So generally speaking I think the
Magic Loss is a moot point since it is countered by Cyberware
Damage, except of course that a broken samurai has nowhere left
to go except to the bottom of a bottle of synthahol, whereas a
magic-dead Mage can always start off a new career as a Street
Samurai. *chuckle*

> I mean magic is not at "thing" it is an art just as much as shooting
> a weapon or using combat skills. If you don't know what your doing
> you can kill yourself.

Yeah, I learned that when the mage in our group first tried
to use air-timed grenades. Poor little wizzer, he *was* a
good egg.

Whew that's quite a mouthful. But since I am not the 'dink' (?)
who came up with the Drain Spell or the Astral Flash pak I
guess I don't have to worry about any of my friends flippin me
off.

MUSERS =?= Magic Users ??? You D&D heritage is showing :)

Just curious- how the hell could this posting NOT OFFEND?

BTW, just between you, me, and the rest of the subscribers....

***********************************************************
IT WAS SUPPOSE TO BE A JOKE !!!!
***********************************************************

As far as playing one for a year, so fragging what? It's only
a game but you seem to be getting quite upset over some techno-
dweomer humour. Take a pill and chill, no better yet, inhale
some Neuro Stun VIII, that should settle ya. >:)

And no, you haven't made an enemy out of me either. I love
responding to these postings. Really. :D

As a final note, maybe in the future you could be a bit less
anonymous? The header comes out with that mysterious * and you
didn't sign this fine piece of work. Please include a .sig
or some email address at the bottom so I don't have to post
these responses to the general membership eh?

Oh well, off to rec.games.frp.misc to see what I can find there. ;)
