I don't know if someone else already came up with this before, but
after re-reading Burning Bright after I read the newer source books
there were suddenly some coins falling here and there:

Knight and Dunky: Dunky promised to help out Knight with his take
over and kept a fair amount of shares for later purposes. He agreed
to help out Knight and vote with him (or warn him in advance how
Galivan Enterprises would vote) in return for a future favour.
Dunky knows about the bugs, knows the general attitude of the
IE's and his brethren about informing the general populace, so he
goes to buddy Knight and calls in his favour. Knight balks, Dunky
votes against him and Aurelius takes over for a while. Knight
reconsiders and comes back. Ares actively pursues the buggies and
pays Chi-town it's fabled visit. The results are so-so, so officially
Knight still not forfilled his part of the agreement.
Then Dunky wants to go for president and needs Knight's support to do
so. Knight agrees if Dunky lets him off the hook and strikes some
kind of deal about the Galivan shares in return for just cleaning up
the town a bit with the Strain III-B.

After Dunky bites the dust, Knight manages to improve that deal by
forcing Daviar to sign over the voting rights completely to him in
return for supressing the riots. Since Daviar probably already needed
to vote along Knight thanks to the previous arrangement, she agrees.

Workable scenario, rehashed stuff, or just plain gibberish?

All makes a great deal of sense to me, Martin.
