I am watching Robocop(for the bagillionth time) and notice that
Robocop's gun looks *exactly* like the pictured Ares Predator in the
Gear section of the BBB.
Does anyone know what kind of gun that Robocop uses? I'm sure it's
probably doctored to look more futuristic, but does the basic frame and
function look familiar to you gun-fiends?
Thanx!

It *might* be tailored after the Colt SCAMP (Small CAlibre Machine Pistol),
although I can't be sure since my only reference is a hand-drawn image in
Firebird's "The Armory Vol. 1" (an /old/ weapons supplement from 1983
designed for Flying Buffalo's "Mercenaries, Spies, & Private Eyes" and HERO
Games' "Espionage").

Weapon stats:

Weapon Name: Colt SCAMP
Date "Adopted": 1970
Calibre: 5.56x29mm (custom)
Capacity: 27 round magazine
Muzzle Velocity: 2100 fps
Length: 29.5cm
Unloaded Weight: 1.0kg
Loaded Weight: 1.5kg
Effective Range: 45m
ROF: Semi-automatic or 3-round burst (1,500 rpm cyclic)

Definitely a SR Machine Pistol. As for Robo's gun, a compact linear
accelerator firing 5mm BB's at high velocities might make sense considering
the shear ammo capacity displayed by the gun (I can't remember him ever
reloading, can you?). Of course, the noise & muzzle flash kinda screws up
that theory :)

Not _exactly_ but it's obvious where the inspiration for the Predator came
from.

It's a Beretta 93R with some stuff put onto the muzzle to make it longer
and more mean-looking. In case you're wondering what a 93R is, it's a
burst-capable 9x19 mm pistol based (quite distantly) on the 92-series that
the U.S. military, among others, uses.

Now that took you long. I still remember me thinking "Wow, they got the
Robocop-gun" and than "Shit, it's only semi-automatic"...:)

It's a Beretta 93R, heavily dressed up.

One of those without all the bolt-ons can be seen in "Broken Arrow",
Travolta carries one on in the final sequence aboard the train.

For the record, in the scene of Robocop(1) after Officer Louis saves him
from the cops and they are recovering in the old mill, when Robo gets
his gun back, he does check and reload it- the other times I assume it's
"John Wayne" ammuntion. Folks, yer looking for realism in Robocop-
let's cash the reality check.
