Depends on the version of the Armor spell you are
using. In BABY (SR3 p.193) the spell is a Mystical
Barrier with a Barrier rating equal to the spells
force + 1 for every two successes against a tn# of 6.
So this would imply that it isn't hardened just extra
barrier points that would be treated as any other
barrier (windows, brick walls, snadbags).
In the corrected printings and errata (at least as of
version 1.5), it works differently. It now says;

This spell creates a glowing field of magical
energy around the target that protects against
impact and ballistic damage. One success is enough
to create the magical field around the character
of an Armor Rating equal to the Force of the
spell. The Armor spell is compatible with all
armor types and adds its rating to the rating of
the physical armor being worn. This spell either
works or it doesn’t; extra successes do not add
additional points to the Armor Rating.

This also seems doesn't mention anything about being
hardened, or have rules in effect that are similair to
hardened.(ie. the ItNW discussion of the last few
days)

So, I would treat it as a layer of standard
(non-hardened) armor over the exsisting layer.

The first version is a simple barrier so sure but it
would only have barrier rules, not vehicular armor
rules. The updated version actually mentions the word
character in the description, so I would say it could
affect vehicles alone.
