I have to say I love the new art and overall flavor of the new Shadowrun
Rule Book. A little less tribal, a little more brutal. It just feels
more futuristic and dark.

There were two pictures though that particularly caught my eye and wan't
to comment on. First the Sprawl Ganger. WOW. Now I know what a Troll
with 1 charisma could look like. I know that charisma has little to do
with appearance, but could you imagine negotiating with him over a
price. Spit and broken teeth flying while he talks. But that aside I
think it is an incredible picture. The troll finally looks like
something other that a big human with horns and fangs. Excellent.

The second picture was the World of Darkness one. I know you all been
talking about this already. And I just want to say, I don't think the
Tail is real. I have seen some (ahem) unusual outfits with leather tails
attached. Those probably are vamps and it probably is a send up to WW.
But it could also be a homage as well. You don't dedicate a whole page
to another game just to give it the finger.

Till Later.

I agree completely. I was, however, mildly disappointed by the purging of
the Tim Bradstreet art. If anything deserved to stay, it was his "gritty
guys with guns" illustrations. Oh well, I'm coping well with having a
hardback.

I agree and I do love the Troll Ganger...unfortunetly they kept the old
picture of the troll under describing races...I hate that picture...and I
was disappointed to see lots of artwork from other books, like the "red
troll" from the Companion.

One picture that really really really bothers me those is the Ork
Detective...they make him look like he's 4 ft tall...everytime I flip
through it I think I saw a really ugly dwarf.

True. He does have some artwork on the still upcoming Corp Wars booster to
the SR:TCG however, so FASA does still contract out work with him on
occasion. And FASA was one of the first companies to use his artwork. As
of a few weeks ago, FASA still hadn't paid him for it (by his statement),
but I'm sure the fine folks at FASA will resolve that situation quickly
enough.

And for those of you in need of a Bradstreet fix, he does have a new book
out, Maximum Black, which is extremely cool, especially if signed by Tim
himself (as my copy is).

Ok..I asked this before and nobody answered..How does the tail or

Another artist that has helped difine the SR look to me is Steven
Bryant..who is also noticably absent from BBB3...So I compensated by
having him sign #700 for me..He obviously felt weird about it but I
talked him into it..But he also said that he did not intend to do any
more...

White Wolf refers to the setting in which their Vampire(tm) RPG line
resides as:
"World of Darkness."

So the key is in the caption.

When I read this I had to look back through my book. I had assumed that the
detective was a dwarf. So I would have to agree.

I feel like the odd one out here, as I really don't like most of the
art in the new book. I tend to like my art 'photo-realistic' almost
and hence Elmore (not that he did anything other than the old covers)
and Bradstreet really do it for me. But there is no sign of anything
'realistic' in the new artwork.

You know, I didn't like this one especially. I see trolls as being
misshapen humans with horns and fangs, not monstrous animals, and this
seemed to totally scream the opposite to me. When I was complaining
about the art work to my wife, this was the first one I pointed out
that irked me.

Strange isn't it. I don't mean this as an attack against you Razor
Girl, I'm just noticing the two rather different opinions people can
hold :). Oh well, at least I appear to be in a minority, so FASA
hasn't upset too many people.

I agree with the monstrous animal part. I didn't like that his face looked
like a dog...
A friend of mine doesn't like it because if you look at the dermal deposits
on his knees...how could he walk?
What I do like of it though is that it gives a really good feel for this
fellow being HUGE. The way his knees are bent a little and his head is
almost stooping to stay in the picture frame...when I flipped to that page
I thought..."wow, this guy's big!"
I don't think any of the other Troll pictures make them seem so tall.

I imagine he's been punched in the face quite a few times, by other
trolls. A srandard gand "jumpin in" involves losing a fight to the whole
gang ("firnds in melee" sucks whan they ain't being friendly).
And that fella has HIGH melee skills; I doubt he spent time training
in a gym with propper head protection.
I have seen people almost that "rugged looking"; as paintings, they
would be even uglier.

Actually, I agree with Nightrain here. I didn't care for that picture,
either. There were a couple pics that I thought depicted trolls MUCH
better. Something about the face...and the beard looks like dragon
whiskers or something.

I also did not like the troll ganger picture, though I did like the one from
the character race desc. If you have a chance, check the cover to the ED book
Crystal Raiders of Barsaive (and inside too) for a GREAT (IMO) picture of
trolls.both by Matt Wilson.
I do not much like Laubenstein though.

I like the picture of the ganger.... it's well done. But it ISN'T how I
visualise trolls. On the subject of Laubenstein... he's weird, some of his
pictures are utterly fantastic while others seem to be a bad idea that has
been overworked. In point of fact I reckon Bradstreet is the only SR
artist who can do no wrong... what was the last project he contributed to?

Don't forget Kevin Long...he hasn't done much stuff for FASA, but he's the
only one I've seen receive a death threat in someone else's art :)

Too bad he wasn't called in to do all the pictures of all the drones and

Kevin Long has an interesting syndrome... his stuff is either really
great, or you find yourself wondering where the hell he got his artist's

I'd have to agree. I liked the old concept of trolls. On a different note
however, I LOVED the weapon specialist. I personally thought this was one of

Perhaps the Sprawl ganger was the missing link between trolls and the

I like: Weapons specialist, street mage and covert whatever-she-is (I
especially dig the li'l mousie in the W.S. picture). However, with a few
notable exceptions I don't think the B/W artwork is up to scratch... Feel

Not the first. There is a lousy (I repeat LOUSY) picture of a female

The place to improve the world is in one's own heart and head and hands,
and then work outward from there. Other people talk about how to expand
the destiny of mankind. I just want to talk about how to fix a
motorcycle. I think that what I have to say has more lasting value.
