I'm going to be writing an article for my school paper to advertise for
SR players. I thought I'd describe what an RPG is, and the explanation in
the BBB is the best, IMO. Would FASA object if I used theirs and said that
FASA wrote it?

Check with your teacher about proper citation of printed works.
As long as it's in a paper, and cited properly, you can use it as a
reference without even having to ask.

They'd probably like it if you did though! ;-)
In fact they might even give you a quote or two you can use for the article.

Oh, you misunderstood (or I have). I meant my school NEWSPAPER. Very
different than a research or thesis paper, I think you would agree ;^)

Hmmm...I don't *think* they'd mind as long as you used proper quotations and
made the relevant connection/acknowledgements. Just be prepared, I don't
know what kind of a place/school you attend, but depending on where it is and
the prevelant attitudes of the teachers, student body and/or parent body, you
could be opening yourself up to problems.

As always, wish I wish you luck...

Nope, Tinners advice applies to newspapers- "Fair Use" covers quoting a
certain amount of text for review purposes. If you want a nice discusion
of what a roleplaying game is, the earthdawn CD had one, and you could
probaly get a copy of that text from someone (maybe even FASA). I'd bet
the Shadowrun quickstart rules also have such a text.

Surprisingly, the Quick Start Rules don't really have much in the way of a
down-to-earth explanation of roleplaying games. Three paragraphs is about
it, and after that it goes on straight to the basics of the rules.

Why not ask FASA? I don't have an E-Mail address for them but someone on
this list must. Can someone out there supply this gentleman with a contact e-
mail address?
