The main reasons were: 1) Lack of space in the already crowded SR3 and MitS
manuscripts and; 2) Mike M. didn't think they were really the equal of
sorcerers and conjurers. Astral adepts (along with aspected enchanters and
possibly some other lesser magical talents) may show up again in a future
product. Of course, there's nothing to keep you from using the (still
perfectly valid) SR2 rules for such characters in the meanwhile.

Something that, as a GM, I'd have to disagree with. Of
course, it takes the right kind of player to use such
a character effectively. If I'm not mistaken, though,
you could make such a character into a fairly
effective sammie or decker, by using bioware for the
former and just a datajack and maybe a few other
pieces of ware (no more than a point's worth) for
both, and have the astral abilities as a rather potent
card up your sleeve. As a player, though, I'd be
unlikely to play one. I'm in love with spells. :)

As I suggested. Cool. :)

Btw, Steve, I prefer my explanation for why they're no
longer there. If I might be so bold as to ask, did you
think of a new name for them before they were axed, or
didn't you get that far? :)

Along those lines - I noticed that in MITS, it states that an
Enchanter is an awakened character. Is this supposed to mean full
magicians, or is it anyone with a magic rating?

Enchanters are on one of two levels. Either A) they are full magicians who
have the enchanting skill and can be of any magical path/following or B)
they are enchanter adepts as per MitS and can only Astral Perceive and
Enchant items.

One clarification: Talismongers do NOT have to be Enchanters, but in almost
every case I've ever seen ... Enchanters ARE Talismongers.

I honestly didn't give it much thought, since they were cut before we made
the adept/aspected magician differentiation. I'd probably go with something
like "Projector", "Clairvoyant", or possibly "Spirit
Walker," although I'll
admit to a fondness for the culturally-rooted term "Benandanti" (which refers
to a particular sect/subculture or Italian witches, who supposedly traveled
in their dreams).

(Its good to be back :)>)

One of my players has been talking about enchanter aspected magicians. At
first I thought that they would just work like aspected magicians; can use
only enchanting. Except aspected magicians can enchant _and_ do wahtever it
is they do. Lower the point cost/piority? Give them some kind of edge when
enchanting? Allow them to summon watchers? Full astral access?
