If a mage can be blind and still be able to Perceive Astrally, is it
possible for a mage that isn't blind, to Perceive while their eyes are
closed?

Yes. Astral Perception isn't via the physical eyes. So, no matter what
happens to your eyes, you can still astrally perceive. Don't forget the
+2 target number modifier for doing anything solely mundane while
astrally perceiving, though.

We have always played it that blind characters could still astrally
percieve, but that may be just something we decided.

It's stated explicitly in Elven Fire that there's a blind mage who
notices the players by perceiving astrally (I won't say more because of
possible spoilers).

As far as I'm concerned....also Perception is a great counter to anysituation
where the visual penalties are greater than +2 (the penalty for interacting with
real world while percieveing..) Like say extreme darkness or smoke..:)

IMHO, yes it is. Astral Perception is a "sixth sense" that really doesn't
require the physical eyes to use: you "see" with your "spirit" not
with your
eyes. That's why those security mages seem to be dozing all of the time. Many
of them aren't astrally projecting but they are using astral perception. I
use this ability in my campaign to make magicians more "spooky" by having
them act sometimes like they've got eyes in the back of their head and such.

Smoke is an effective barrier to Astral Perception, as is fog or mist.
Remember, if you can't see through it normally, you can't see through it
on the Astral, either. Low-light situations, however, are easily set off
through Astral Perception.

Wouldn't it be the case, if this were true, that the handy mage astral
perceiving the sam to check how wired he was wouldn't be possible 'cause
last time I looked I couldn't see through clothes :)

The persons aura extends outside the body.
It's the aura that is checked.

With smoke, the smoke a long distance cover...

(Auras only extend a few inches to a foot outside the body...)

Yeah, but your arua extends around you. You aren't looking at the sammy,
you're looking at the aura surrounding him.

Not at all. The aura extends beyond the clothing/armour etc. I can't
think of any specific references to it in the rules off hand, but I
would say the aura extends about 6 inches from the body itself. The
crystal wavers are of that opinion at least.

Don't be picky... the aura extends a little bit past the body.

I think you didn't see a "magically active" floor,...but rather the
"life-force", so to say, of the planet. The astral realm is sustained by
life, and since the planet is the biggest single living thing *on* this
planet it has an aura of itself.
