After finally getting my hands (paws?) on a copy of MitS and browsing
through the section on astral quests, I came up with (IMO) a rather
important question:
If you astrally quest for "Learn Spell" which reduces the force of the
spell for purposes of karma by one point per rating and adds one dice per
rating (p. 94 bottom right corner). Does this mean that I can make a
rating 5 astral quest for a force 5 spell and not have to pay any karma
for it? (Which would seem to me would eliminate both the time and karma
cost of the spell to zero.)
Anyone help me with an interpretation here?

I can try. ;)

In my game, I would say that there is still a minimum Karma cost of 1 no
matter what was done. Besides, for a Force 5 quest its possible that he may
burn some more Karma just to survive it anyway.

As for the time, its going to be reduced a lot. But I don't have a problem
with that seeing as how he is trolling the upper reaches of the metaplanes.
However, the time required is still the time required. All the Quest does
here is add dice to the test for how long he takes to learn that spell. Its
still possible to blow the rolls. And even if he doesn't, there is going to
at least be some fraction of a day left over.

IMHO, the effective Force of the spell cannot drop below 1.

OH YES!!!!! (sorry, had to do that). This is something that I've been
wondering what happened too since Grimoire I. Hell Steve, got a flipside
question for you then. If you do the same thing for an Enchantment
Formulae...what then????

-K (who does agree with the minimal ruling as well, and believes this should
be an ERRATA of some sort VERY SOON!!!)
