First off Denver,

We just got it up here in Geordie land but I'm a bit reticent at parting with
16 pounds <about $24> for what might be a load of rubbish. Anyone who has it
care to submit a review ?

And now for something completely different :)

Astral space. This topic confuses the hell out of me everytime I play. My
players are always trying to do wierd and wonderful stuff with astral space
that just leaves me going "hmmmm..." more times than not.

Can you summon spirits in astral space ? Watchers ?

Can you dodge spells in astral space ? What about if you have the initiative ?

Can you fight more than one spell in astral space ? Spells and other astral
combatants ?

Do earth elementals get a +1 reach in astral space ?

As usual the book's explanations were not exactly satisfying and I'd appreciate
hearing other people's interpretations of the rules on these points.

Cheers :)

Phill.

Aaarrrggghhhh. That is really annoying. Lucky I'm still in the habit of
saving most everything I write. Oh well, can't be helped now. Here's the real

Well, this is without looking at my trusty SR book, but heh.

Summoning elementals could be rather difficult, likewise allys, due to the
requirements of materials. I can see nothing wrong with summoning watchers or
nature spirits from astral space though, provinding you want to take physical
drain - remember all drain from astral space is physical.

I think you can only intercept them, and then only if you have a delayed
action. You cannot dodge a spell. However, if the spell is directed at you, and
you are astrally active (I'm not sure but) I think it must overcome you in
astral combat before it can ground out to effect you physically [I have a
feeling that this combat to overcome an astrally present target is
instantaneous, but I may be wrong.]

Intercepting spells requires delaying an action. The moment you break off
combat from a spell, it will piss off. So I would say you could only fight a
single spell at a time, as when you delay, you effectively break off, so the
spell buggers off. Either that, or if you use your delayed action to attack the
current spell as it tries to run away, then you will not have a delayed action
avaiable to intercept the new spell. If the spell was cast at you, then I
guess you could take on as many as you liked, as they all (I think) need to
first overcome you in astral combat. Actually, I have a suspicion that when a
spell has to overcome you in astral combat (when it is directed at you), that
the combat occurs instantly, so perhaps not. I can't remember without looking
at my book, which a friend who has buggered off has.

I would say so, the same way a troll mage gets +1 reach in astral space.
The same way an astrally projecting dragon mage gets a +3 to reach. Now thats
nasty, as the dragon is no longer a dual creature, so it is not confined to its
meat part.
