Now, I know that most of the Awakened are already, as it were, Awoken,
but suppose you had a human who was destined to Awaken into a troll,
and he hadn't done it yet. (for whatever reason; maybe it was in an earlier
time, or maybe some other reason.) So he goes out gets cyberware; eyes,
reflexes, some headware, maybe some bone lacing. And then, he Awakens
and mutates into a 7'foot tall troll. What happens to the cyberware?
I gather that when you use a "shapechange" spell, anything you
pay Essence for (cyber, etc) is now considered a "part" of you and
changes with you. But does Awakening work like this? Or would his cyber
tear him apart from the inside? Would his body just "push it all out" and
he'd be fine, just wake up a troll with several thousand dollars worth of
wire and circuitry scattered around him? (and new eyes etc)..

?????

I would say that this person is F*CK*D..But that would be my call..

Actually..More it changes into you..IE if you have cybereyes and you get
Shapechanged into a dog..You are a dog with natural eyes not a dog with
cybereyes..

But does Awakening work like this?

I would say no..

This would be my bet..And if it didn't kill him he would be crippled..

I just thought of a possible answer to my own question; maybe if you
have anything less than your full Essence (with bioware assuming to
affect Essence like it does mages) then you can't Awaken. If Awakening
is a magical process, then I think this would make sense... Your body's
just too messed-up to make that delicate transition.

As I recall goblinisation occurs during puberty so it is unlikely
that the character would have the wiring as he was still growing. Cybereyes
should be no problem and a replacement cyberlimb would probably fall off
damaged.

Well, transformation from a (meta)human to a vampire is a pretty magical one
too, and they don't loose their cyber.
True, they also don't exactly change size by a factor of two, but...
I've always wondered about vampires and cyberguys, if you have an essense of
one, then you better watch out for essense draining creatures. Also, what if
a cyberguy with essense one gets transformed into a vampire, is his max
essense going to be 2?

looking at the rules i'd have to say yes. The rules for essence draining
creature's say that their new max essence is double that of the creatures'
Normal essence, which for this Sam is 1 and hence the new max of (2).

This raises the Q, Can essence drain creatures affect characters with zero
essence??

Zero essence is easily possible and many characters progress to this
(sorry) state of mind and body during their careers. What happens when an
essence draining creature drains these ppl?

Our GMs always threaten to do it someday but haven't yet braved the huge
arguements which will no doubt follow. A hint is given under the Essence
drain rule (in Paranormals of Europe i think) where it says that these
creatures avoid low essence animals (it says it somewhere).

NghtChld (heavily beta'd) says,
Surely a creature with exactly 0 essence can't be drained at all and has
nothing to fear (as if i would fear anything anyway!)

BUT can 0 essence chrs become vampires? interesting neh?

On the subject of tearing people apart... A while back someone asked if that
pshyco bunch of gun crazys (I can't remember the name of the organisation,
but 1/2 the people on this list will probably be on it, and I'll get flamed
so much I'll start to think I'm in hell) was still around in 2050. They asked
if they would be "campaigning for implantation of smartlinks in every citizen
at birth". Say, just for examples sake, that I had a 13 year old person, and
put a smartlink in 'em. What happens when the grow? Does the smartlink become
dysfunctional, or what?
Anyway, on the real topic, I would say if the had any unyielding cyber, like
bone lacing, then its bye bye to your character, but if it was only some
circutry, like wired reflexes, then it would not be able to cover the new
lengths in the characters body and would need to be fixed. Remember that cyber
uses gold layering for conducting, not a piece of wire. The gold material
would just separtate, and it would cease to conduct anymore. This is what can
also happen if you take a serious wound, it may damage cyber, like cutting
circuitry, or worse.
