Ciao guys

Premise:
1) I live in Italy
2) My favourite RPGs shop doesn't seem to replenish its stock of
Shadowrun stuff very often and so...
3) ...I didn't buy Awakenings, that, according to FASAsite, is
currently out of stock.

The Awakenings preview on FASAsite says:
"...and the real advantages only physical adepts enjoy."

What does it mean ?
Does this sourcebook introduce some new rules for PhyAds ?

Thanx in advance

Awakenings has adept powers that did not apear in SR2 or the grimoire,
and rules for "physical mages"- characters that can make limited use of
spellcasting and conjuring, and also have (fewer points worth of) physical
adept powers.

If you are using SR3 (and hence just "adepts"), you'd want MITS instead.
It has extra adept powers (fewer than Awakenings, but good ones, and
re-fitted for SR3) and rules for a type of adept that can cast spells and
conjure spirits (again, in a limited fasion, and at a cost to the number of
adept powers they get).

Oh yeah! There are a lot of new powers for physads. My favorite part was
about the Ways. I believe that they are in MitS (I don't have that book
though).

Awakenings is for SR2 and earlier Magic in the Shadows (MitS) is for SR3 so
depending on what you play you might want to just get MitS since it covers
everything that was in Awakenings and the Grimore that applies to SR3 any
ways. It has a lot of Physad powers in it.

The only reason you'd need to get Awakenings now is for atmosphere.
I've only skimmed through MitS, but it seems to cover everything that
was in Awakenings and, technically, anything that was in Awakenings but
isn't in MitS is not a canon SR3 rule.

On the other hand, Awakenings rates as my second-favourite Shadowrun
sourcebook ever. Why? BECAUSE of the atmosphere. So much of it is not
rules, but descriptions of what it's like to be a mage or an adept, how
magical characters operate in the Sixth World, etc. etc. It's just
WONDERFUL for getting a mental handle on magic in Shadowrun, even if
there aren't a lot of rules.

I never got the chance to say this when it first came out (not being on
the list at the time), but kudos, Steve. IMO Awakenings has been your
best work, although your later stuff is good too. :)

Yes, mainly a text about their way of magic, and some new rules (including
new powers). However, most of this is covered in Magic in the Shadows, so
when/if your local RPG shop gets that in stock, you could do a lot worse
than buy it.
