I was thinking of the Broadway musical, Aztlan! Aztlan! Aztlan!, debuting in
December of 2057.

After VR 2.0 came out, on the rpg.cyber newsgroup, someone said that Ambrose
actually was Merlin. I don't know of any evidence that supports this, however.

I haven't read VR2.0, but I do know that Ambrosius is one of the many
names attributed to Merlin throughout the various Arthurian myths. So, this
may very well be Merlin.
Just my two cents worth.

Worth investigating, prime runners might be of some use :), as
Hessler/Merlin are in that. Time for personality comparisons.

Ok i went and reread the VR2 story.
its called 'things to come' and is apparantly not a shadowland post
no 'from Captain Chaos' headers.

First off
both speakers are in a matrix node : needs at least trode sets
Both claim to be very poor deckers, not good on IC.

Ok I don't think 'Ambrose' is Merlin of Leo (Leonardo / Brightlight)
Merlin would not follow a passion (see final page top right) - both
folks do H'you follow your passion i follow mine'. and could not use
a trode rig no physical brain to interface with. Ok that magical
'paraoptical deck' might solve that one but. Then well Leo has
afformentioned deck, IC whats that, would not rate so low decking.

IT. They note was not arround last time. That means it must be a
'thing of the matrix' so 'IT' is not an immortal elf, free spirt or
anything like that.

Ok thats shot an awful lot down, pity but.

Ok so we have the Ambrose-Merlin link, could therefore Ambrose be
Hessler? 'Black Madonna' establishes him as 'elven illuminati' he has
Merlin as a friend was probably alive in the fourth world and would
probably like Harlequin be a poor decker at best. Any comments.

Taking a long shot... But wasnt that the alias of the modern day Merlin who
posed as an auto-mechanic in a TV series about 6-7 years back ?

Nope.....only Dutch people'll know him. The only thing I can tell you
about him is that he runs and rots :-)

Forgot about it not being around the first time around, but just because
it wasn't around the first time around doesn't mean it wasn't an immortal
elf, free spirt, or anything like that. I mean, Brane Deigh, according
to WWE is apparently an immortal elf, but wasn't around the last time
around either... Personally, i think it's probably an AI, and I just
wanted to be a wee devil's advocate... but this does bring me back to my
original question:

Why would an AI care about the Scourge?

I hat eto sya it but there is a really good reason described in the
Ghostrider 2099 comic. The "people" who create GR 2099 are a bunch of
rogue AI's. They've predicted that the human race will implode itself in
a few years. This is BAD for them since they are computers and still nedd
the humans to run stuff on the outside to keep the Matrix going. So they
use GR to do stuff to keep the infrastructure going until they evolve to
the point where they aren't tied to the Matrix.

Sounds like a good reason to care about the Scourge. Self preservation.

One thing about Shadowrun is that the magic system is very animalistic.
That's a type of religious belief, son. Everything has an presense in the
astral. (ie essense, spirit, or whatever else you want to call it.) The
animalistic beliefs state that everything has a soul. The trees, the rocks,
the air, and even people (that's a joke too, son). Whose to say the matrix
doesn't have an Essense in a similar way? The collective hallucination that
makes the matrix could become a presense. Not quite an AI not quite a
spirit, but something in between.

Nope. Although you're looking in the right direction with the TV guess.
