Ive noticed that after the kinds of answers I was originally looking for
came out from a few people, this thread kind of got lost. Basically, I was
talking about non-combat munchkins. guys who basically become unassailable
in a non-com field of play. I got some helpful ideas (Thanks to those who
gave them) and Im sure I will be able to deal with the inevitable a bit
better now.
A lot of you took this thread off to the combat-munchie firing range, and
then onto the Why-a-GM-shouldnt-restrict-players and similar themes.
Id like to share something with those of you who complain about these
things.
Where I am and amongst the locale I live within, there is only one other SR
player I know in real life. (thats Doc' - Hi Rand!). A lot of you complain
because you think you can do a better job than your GM, or heck, go play
with another GM. Thats fine, well and good, but some of use dont have
another GM or SR gaming group to go play with. It sounds really stupid and
selfish to hear people winge and complain about these things when you dont
realise how lucky you are to have a group of players to play the game youve
chosen and (probably) enjoy a lot. Ive had to work for over three years to
get the guys I play DnD with to give Sr a chance. Dont knock the fact that
someone is willing to forgo playing the game to ref for everyone else, write
up the adventures, ensure (we hope) that all is fair in thievery and war
(and perhaps love) and make it so we all enjoy the game. These guys might be
common where you are, but they are rare as hens teeth round here for any rpg
system. give other people some credit. Sure there are dud GM's out there,
but youre probably playing with your friends, not strangers, so talk tot he
GM about it and come to an agreement for goodness sake!
>From the sounds of things, most of the groups out there get along well, but
some of you are forgetting each group has its own style. Its up the group
itself to figure out whether to allow PAC's and banshee's or high powered
spells or whatever. This could be the GM's choice or the players democratic
decision. You've all got to enjoy the game after all - else you wont be
playing long.
Thanks again to those who gave hints of how to deal with players who want to
play the rules and dice rather than the game.
Cheers,
