After thinking about magical barriers (and their personal versions), I
wondered about whether they were all one-way or two way barriers. Are the
personal versions one-way or two way? If they were two way, a person with a
bullet barrier wouldn't be able to shoot without breaking down his own
barrier, etc.

Actually a personal barrier would only extend a micron or so from your
skin. As a result your pistol would be outside of the barrier.

That is certainly not stated in the rules. My take on personal barriers is
that they exist on the outer edge of the being's aura...about a foot away
from their skin. Thus, if you have a long enough gun, you can fire through
a personal bullet barrier, but pistols will have to take down the barrier
in order to get out. Just think - your party mage could cast a personal
bullet barrier on some guy with a pistol on the other team to stop him from
shooting you. Cool, huh? :)

This also works with the blade barrier...your knife would have to cut
through it in order to attack with it, but your katana would be able to
attack normally, etc.

Now, keep in mind that the personal bit is up for debate as to what it
exactly means, however. I take it to mean that it only encompasses one
person. Others take it to mean that it still has the same area of effect
as a standard barrier, but it must be centered on the caster. This isn't
clarified as far as I know, so I just go with what makes sense to
me....hopefully this will be cleaned up in SR3.

Justin :)

Okay, the normal barrier spells in the books cut both ways, though by
increasing the drain you could make them one-way barriers also (stop from one
direction, but not the other) ... I usually increased the drain code by 2
levels to reflect the necessary involvement with the spell ...

I thought I'd throw this in here. Can you anchor spells to bullets? If
so, would a Shattershield bullet work? Designed specifically to bust
through Bullet Barrier spells... Would be great for assasins and snipers.

If you can spent the karma for that yes, why not.
Detect barrier spell linked to the shattershield and you are ready.
Just keep the detect radius very small and set the trigger at instant.

Just want to make clear: the idea that personal barriers "wrap" the
person is a HOUSE RULE. According to the BBB, the only difference
between barrier and personal barrier is that the personal barrier must be
CENTERED on the caster.
