Get Man and Machine; it will give cyber- and bioware, which everyone seems
to like. :) Cannon Companion, when it comes out, will be essential, as it
will give advanced weapons and little things like simsense rules.

Get any of the place books you can, if such appeals to you. They seem to not
appeal to many of the people here, but it wouldn't feel like SR to me
without them.

Get Lone Star. Get Corporate Security. Yes, they're out of print. Get them
anyway.

Get Bug City, just because it's good. I read it for fun.

Well, okay, I think you should buy them all; SR isn't SR without Shadowtech,
particularly since M&M doesn't have shadowtalk. And Tir Tairngire told me
things I'm very glad I know. They're all good--with the exception of Prime
Runners--and they all add to the world.

But LS and CorpSec are a must, in my mind; always know the opposition.

M&M is considered a core product. It has lots of cyberware and lots of it
that was reworked to fit into SR3. Like for example the Encephelon from
Shadowtech and other items from Cybertechnology.
M&M has the rules for using Bioware in SR3.

If you are just getting into Shadowrun since the release of SR3, then no
you don't need to get this book, but if you plan to buy books later they
will most likely refer to this book since it's a core product. Also, if
you have any players who used to play SR2 this book will be highly
recommended since it has some of the cyberware they are used to and without
it you have no rules for bioware which has been around since SR1.

Cannon Companion is "the gun book". It will have lots of weapons, lots
that were not put in the SR3 main book...my wife was shocked not to see the
Manhunter in the SR3 book. Some new weapons like flame throwers and chain
saws are suppose to be in it as well. It will then have rules on creating
new weapons and modifying existing weapons. It will contain a section on
new combat options. It will also contain a section on Simsense rules that
were suppose to be in M&M. Again, this one is a core product so future
books will probably refer to it.

The answer to that question depends on who you're talking to :)

IMHO the BBB3 (core rule book) is the only book you need.

MitS, VR2, M&M would be my first choices to round everything out.

After that it depends on what type of a campaign you run. If you like the
corporate would, snag Corporate Download. If you're a GM and want to make
life harder for the PCs, get Lone Star (plus, it's a great book). If you
want to make life really hard, get Bug City <EGMG>. And so on :)

According to Sabrina, at 15:03 on 24 Nov 99, the word on the street was...

Some generic advice I typed up as a response to many such questions can be
found at http://www.xs4all.nl/~gurth/shadowrun/buyers%20guide.html (if
that doesn't work, replace the %20 by a space).

> and I'am considering M&M.. but is it something I would need?

I can't say, as I don't own it yet :)

> and whats that The cannon companion book about on the FASA site?

Guns and other combat equipment, is what we've been told it will be about.
Mainly, it'll be an update of the existing "combat equipment" books like
the Street Samurai Catalog and Fields of Fire. If you want more guns etc.
you might want to wait for it instead of buying the SSC and FoF.
