Oops....

I meant that the _pilot_ was blind, not the aircraft sensors.

Forgive me if I misunderstood the reply, but I thought that the _reply_
thought that I had meant that she was figuratively blind.

Oh well, the intricasies of English.

Yes, I understand that. I just pointed out that using lasers to blind
aircraft in one way or another is not a new idea--it's at least 20 years
old. This just happens to be one of the first known uses of such a system
directly targeted at the pilot. It's also why you'll find just about every
modern combat jet equipped with a tinted canopy (witness the gold tint due
literally to gold flakes in the glass of the F-16's canopy) and UV laser
proofed visor. Trainers and training equipment aren't battlefield hardened.
