Hello,

reading the question about jumping and distance another question
pops up in my mind:

In the description of the levitate person spell is stated, that the
weight of a person is his/her body * 50 kilo.

Isn't that a bit too much. The normal person with body 3 will have
a weight of 150 kilo. IMO equipment can't be the excuse for so much
weight.

Any comments?

I'd say just use common sense. Take the average weight of each race as they
give it in the SRII rulebook, and adjust it if necessary. The same goes for
cars (cars are what, 1000kg per point of Body or something? according to
FASA, at least) That'd mean the Jackrabbit weighs about 1000kg, for a small
two-seat car!

50 kilos * Body is way too much for the average person. What I use
is half that (25 kilos * Body) which gives a much closer
approximation to a persons weight. It's still not perfect though and
it really should be left up to the player to decide how much they
want their character to weigh.

Yes, excactly my thoughts. I tried the 25 kilo * Body just to determine
the target number of the levitated person spell (I hate that flying
around, especially above my nice security walls and shacks, sniff). It
just was too easy.

A one-shot solution is to string monowire above your security fence. If the
magician wants to levitate over it, roll a perception test for him (don't
tell anything if he fails), and ask him by how far he wants to fly over it
(don't ask it too obviously). If he says something like "just with my feet
over the top of the fence" subject him to a 10S attack by monowire and
inform him his lower legs are gone.
Of course it won't work if he says "I go up to about a hundred meters, to
the other side of the fence, and down to the ground."

That will work only once. The mage has a magic rating of 8, so she fly
nearly 40 meters on a good day. I don't think she'll just "jump" over the
fence but fly (she likes the feeling, too)

Try this: remember the old WW I and WW II trick with AA-balloons?
Modernize it by tying multiple strings of monowire to a stealth done
(condor) and let these babies fly over your corp facility.

I said it was a one-shot solution... I pulled it on our shaman once and now
she's real careful about flying over fences. But it did give the player a
warning, so now he usually goes "time to tease the GM again" when the shaman
starts casting Levitate or Mob Mind...

They are not supposed to trail around. They're supposed to hover
above the facility with monowires tied to them and to the fence,
making a sort of invisible tent-shaped net.

Woah, impressive, I didn't know someone, apart from the Dutch, could
speak our language. To be accurate (and a bit annoying :-) the above
should be:

Ok, you got me. The drones could hover all day above the facility,
but then they would be visible. You could create automatic reels in
the drones, and combined with auto-release switches on the gate, you
could fly them in every morning. But then it would be obvious when
the runners see the guards attach the strands to the gate.
Then again carefull shadowrunners can avoid everything. This idea was
ment to be used on careless teams, which attack without a good plan.
