NAGEE files on to my PC, I finished reading _Lone_Wolf_, by Nigel Findley
(for those who don't know, its a Shadowrun book -- for those who care, its
number 12).
Very good book. Besides being a great read, it put the difference
between cops, corp workers, gangs, and shadowrunners into more persepctive
for me. For example, it shows that in the Shadowrun world, a police
organiztion such as Lone Star is just another corporation providing a
service. Not a bad way to do it, really, but less friendly than they're
currently supposed to be.
Gangs, even those who want to act like Mafiosos or whatever the
Yakuza equivalent would be, are still (as today) mostly made up of people
who really couldn't make it on their own, due to age or temprament.
But the cream of the crop are the Shadowrunners. Next time you're
thinking how off-balance it is for a player-character to be going up
against your average corp wage slave, look at it this way -- in order to
_become_ a Shadowrunner they would've had to be pretty exceptional in the
first place!
In the book, the hero finds himself having to re-think the
preconceptions forced upon him by society and by his Lone Star training.
(He also finds himself trying to save his skin, of course -- that's what
makes it exciting.)
I highly suggest reading it.
