It seems way to easy to blow up (destroy) a vehicle. Here's my
example: Let's say you are driving a van and get shot from behind. I
know standard weapons will have a difficult time, but bear with me.
You are using a heavy weapon, you can get through, but its not with
something explosive. The vehicle has the standard damage boxes that a
soft target has. Now, if the weapon has a high enough staging, it can
pierce through the vehicle back and cause a D wound. Vehicle
completely disabled.

I think that if a weapon were firing at a vehicle that has a lot of
cargo space like a van, it has a very good chance at just piercing
that section and messing up what's in the back. It shouldn't disable
the vehicle. I don't think a D wound necessarily should disable the
vehicle. Perhaps some sort of hit location system is what is needed.

I'm going to check my Car Wars game and see if it has any helpful
hints. Got any ideas?

Ok, shooting the van from behind. The player gets a Deadly result (after
staging and all); I'd say they just managed to hit the, um, crankshaft?
I really don't know vehicle terms; I mean the shaft that transfers the
power from the engine to the rear wheels (assuming rear-wheel drive).
Or they hit a gas tank under the body and the van turns into a bonfire.
Nothing says that a Deadly result means that they hit the back doors dead
center. In fact, I would argue that it signifies that they hit an
important part of the vehicle, the loss of which disabled the vehicle.
(I'd say blown up is pretty disabled. :) )

Of course, a shot from the front or side could have hit the engine block
and shattered it, or hit a fuel line, sending a flame back down the line
to the tank, and... well, look above. :)

Maybe the player was aiming for something specific, like a called shot to
the tire. A D result would take off the tire really well, maybe even the
tire across from it (in a side shot) or the axle. Use your imagination
(some slight knowledge of vehicles wouldn't hurt either), and remember
that a Deadly result means that they've "killed" the vehicle, which
doesn't necessarily mean it blows up. Of course, if they're using an
AVM or a ripple of rockets...
