Thermo does more than Low Light. Invisibility spells fail against
Thermo but works fine on Low Light. That's pretty major in my book.

and lowlight works fine through two-paned glass windows (the kind with a
vaccuum between the two panes for energy effeciency) but thermo doesn't
... I set Lowlight vision cost equal to Thermo because:

1) Every other place I can think of in SR sets the equal to each other
(cybereyes, scope, physad powers ...)
2) It makes calculating the cost easier :)

Why doesn't thermo work against vacuum double glazing?

Hmm...I was going to answer this saying that it is an insulator, but does
the two paned glass windows have a vacuum? I thought they had air
in-between them. Whatever the answer is, the two-paned glass windows act as
an insulator, and thus could possibly mask the thermal signature of the
person being looked for.

Forget double glazing. Ordinary glass, even a single pane, is opaque to
infrared. If you had the ability to see into the infrared, most windows
would "wash out" the colors you see that indicate heat. You can get
specially made glass that wouldn't do this, but you wont see it in
windows except maybe for expensive armored guardposts for cybered
or ork guards.

And, BTW, double glazed windows are filled with an inert gas, not a
vacuum.

Orks have Low light vision, Dwarves and Trolls have Thermo :)

Oops :) makes sense. Thanks for straightening all that out. I (barely)
remember this stuff from a piece on energy effecient homes in Popular
Science that I read half a dozen or more years ago ... :)

OK guys, Natural Thermo is on full time but not pure Thermo, it is
in tandem with natural (ROYGBIV) light. A Window isn't going to stop a
Dwarf from seeing outside, it will just look odd with out the heat
signatures. Other uses of Thermo are exclusive visions and are selective
in use (on or off).
I still stand by opinion that natural Thermo being better than
natural Low Light. Lowlight gives so little extra information in
comparison.

Correct, a vacuum is an insulator. All an insulator does is prevent
CONDUCTION of energy however.

Thermal imaging is based on Infra-red RADIATION , and an insulator
will *NOT* stop that.

Remember your basic science classes.
3 ways to transfer heat... Conduction, Convection, and Radiation.
(You still feel the heat of the sun through double glazing remember)

A special coating on a window that allows visible
light to pass but absorbs/reflects IR would work though....
