Hoi... I've been sort of following the Highlander discussion, and even
participated once early on... So I thought I'd say a few words and offer
up my thoughts, as I'm wont to do on occasion...:]

Introducing Highlanders (I know they aren't all Highlanders, Spike... But
other than that, I can only call them Immortals, and I'd prefer to
differentiate them from teh IE, as they are definately somewhat different)
into your game could have serious ramifications, so you'd best be prepared
for it.

You'll have non-elf immortals, for one thing. Whetehr or not the
Highlander Immortals (The HI, from here on out) are much different from the
IE is debateable, and totally up to you, as GM... I can see arguments
for trhis going both ways...

Also, if you introduce them, your players will want to play one... Not
something I'd want to deal with, so I'd say no to anyone wanting to play
one... Of course, I WOULD like to play one, as I see a lot of RP potential
in this type of character.

You also have to figure out exactly how this would work... And like has
been mentioned before, the show isn't very consistent about things, so your
on your own for rules...

Basically, Immortals can die... tehy just come back to life after a short
while...

But it does take a mortal wound tokill them... They'll heal any normal,
non-lethal damage fairly quickly... To represent this, I'd give them
regeneration...

The fabulous Sword Skill is not free,,, Even Conner McCloud had to learn
how to use the thing...

They do have a weakness... a killing blow to the head will sever their
head, and there is no regeneration from that...

As for what happens when one HI takes the head of another... Well, that's
something that hasn't even been explained in the TV Show, let alone the
movies... It's assumed that they gain some power from the HI they kill,
but in what amount? All the memories? All the skill? Or just a little
more raw power?

I'd give an HI bonus Karma for killing another HI, but that would be about
it... This prevents the skill from getting too abusive...

Bahh.... i've been rattling on for too long... take it easy...

From what iv seen and read about when the HI kills another HI They gain
the skills of the person they kill (watch the 3rd Highlander and listen
closely to the chinese guy that was McClouds mentor for a little wile,
he tells McCloud to kill him before another does so his illusion powers
wont fall into the wrong hands).

well just thought id let you know.

And, the way it works in the Film and series is, they don't KNOW they're
immortal UNTIL they have died once.
At that point, the aging process stops.

That's why Ramerez looks so much older than McCloud....

I basically have all the rules for the Highlander NPC written down on
paper. If the players want to play as a highlander, they will be able to
use it starting out, but they will have to have A as the races priority,
or the reasonable facsimlie thereof with the Companion. They will also
have to be human, and use the human attrib's. They also have to have a
good background, and reason to play to allow it in my game. Other GM's
may have different restrictions for the character type.

Now using Gweedo the Killer Pimp ver. 3.1 sporting such features as:
A poleyester leisure suit, platform shoes, a pink cadillac, fuzzy dice,
and a gold tooth!

Greetings Zarcon...I'm guessing you are new... hope you have a
laaaaarrrrgggge mailbox :}

Accully the way I'd play it is if you kill another one with the power you
gain karma and all skills at 1 that the other had...
::Or::
You can treat them as a race with a manditory physad ability or Physical
Mage...but starts out with no powers execpt for Regeneration/ Immortality,
then when he kills another immortal he gains the initate level of that
immortal along with the powers that they had or just karma if the other
immortal had no initation...

In both i'd say they also get all the memories and at least the knowledge
skills of the other immortal...

[snip all Bull's thoughts on Highlander]

For some good mechanics-wise stuff about what happens when they take
another Highlander/Immortal's head, check out the WW rules for them that
have been written up. They are available in a few places (BJ Zanzibar's
page, Oxford by Twilight, etc..). And since WoD has a fairly similar
dice/experience system to SR, it wouldn't be TOO much work for the ol'
hamster-up-stairs to convert.
