I finally read Burning Bright last night, and considering all the discussion
about it I am very surprised about something. No one brought up the fact
that he was creating spells on the fly :) I'm sure the subject has been
discussed before, but not in the year I've been on the list so... What does
everyone think of it? Would you do it like programming on the fly, except
have drain of (Force)D cuz it's raw magic. Hmmm, come to think of it magic
is accelerating, raw magic appears, Horrors appear. Very interesting.

BTW, can you imagine the power of the ward the Invae constructed to contain
ALL of the radiation?

Ack! You're kidding! That's the big suck-ola. A mage should understand
that if you don't have the proper magic to combat anything, then you
should get the hell outta there. When mana and power bolts fail and
physical manips do nothing it's time to put your faith in imp. invis and
run like hell. And if you don't have imp. invis, or even invis, then
pray your stealth and karma pool can carry your butt.

My character has spent much time and effort into researching spells, and
if the Grimythingy III comes out saying "Oh, and if you need Acid Bomb 6,
no problem! Just theorize on the fly!" Programming I can understand,
but magical theory composition is a little on the complex side. I've
done lots of programming and every new program of mine has a few bugs.
Imagine what those bugs could do in a magcial formula.

I dislike it becasue of the holy Game Balance. Though it sound halfway
probable for shamans. Maybe I'd allow a shaman to learn a new spell under
duress if he paid twice or three times the normal cost for it in karma. But
it is just too set against a mages mindset for him to be able to do it I
think.
