My view on cantrip in AD&D (to put it in SR terms) is a combination of a
force 1 Phantasm\Magic Fingers\Makeover\Fashion\Ignite spell... basically,
any minor effect that be created by a force 1 illusion or manipulation can
be pulled off by a cantrip. Personally, if nothing important will come of
it, I'd let someone pull anything out of their hat they like... from
standing invisibly in the corner (just standing) to the minor
party-magician illusions and slights of hand. If something important
would come of it, that's when I use the "Casting on the Fly" rules that I
posted a while back (that no one saw fit to comment on)... it gives you a
bit more power than a standard cantrip, but its got drawbacks.
