Talking to a buddy of mine tonight, we came up with a possibility for a new
SR campaign.
It'd be fairly low powered, but have plenty of action, and allow the PC's
to make some serious cash.

CARJACKERS!

The team would sort of work like a fixer group.
They would get requests from groups and individuals for certain vehicles,
and they would steal them, chop shop them and move along the merchandise.

There'd be plenty of opportunity for action fighting off police intent on
aresting the car theives, as well as what happens when that Nightsky you
just boosted belongs to the local Mafia Don?

Silly little idea, but I thought it might be an interesting change of pace
from the usual "You meet in a bar, are hired to retreive X, and shoot a lot
of people" type runs that are so prevalent.

BTW - I don't want any constructive criticism, but bitching and comments
are always welcome. :-)

I admit I fall into that pattern from time to time, but I also have
sessions where I don't give the characters any objectives only keep
asking them what they are going to do. These can lead to some of the
funniest of times, during one of these sessions a couple of the
characters decide that after the last run they needed a drink they went
a local strip joint and had a few to many that one character got picked
up by the ugliest thing that ever walked on two (or more) feet, one
picked up one of the better looking dancers only to have his gun,
credstick, and other stuff stolen before he got lucky, and the third
well he's the munchkin in the group couldn't find anything (I quess
that happens when you have 1 chr. 0 ess. 1 int. and they can't find a
single part of your body anywhere) except for the only thing that he
could handle a fight. Well we still laugh and bring up some of these
moments every gaming session and others from some of the other nights
that I did this I quess i'm just saying that the GM does't always
haveto decided what there is to do let the characters do it for a
while.

Hey, has this Carjacking thing been done as a LARP?
I just couldn't resist the connection. Seriously, I am sorry about your
loss.

Hey no problem. I'm just another statistic. I found a few of them

The rigger in our group owns a vehicle shop and decided that he's going to
run a little "chop shop" for some side-cash. Another player in the group
(a 'muscle' type character) works for him as security sometimes. He
employs a small staff of locals to do most of the dirty work (no time for
fun while running the shadows). Although it's a new group of PC's and we
haven't played too much yet, it seems to work out and offers a lot of
potential story-lines.

Go for it.

[snip, snip]

That is a GREAT way to go and promote some role-playing and encourage the
PC's to flesh out their characters...Lets the players whose characters
have good backgrounds have some fun persuing their characters non-running
interests, and gets those whose characters don't have good backgrounds to
work on them... Puts the ball back into the PC's court so to speak. I
love doing that (like you said, great stories too..).
