WOW! I had got this in another email list at the same time. Quite weird.
I don't know whether or not to be relieved or not to not have to do this
here. However, it would be an interesting place to do more overwatch
tactics from. Can't really believe they've chosen a Windows platform for it
given the additional processing that could be handled differently, but I
understand it.

Interesting indeed that they chose that platform - though I almost
feel like I am walking into a Unix v. Microsoft minefield - as a
computer security professional, I personally do not distinguish
between the two products - I deal at work with 4 unix platforms,
linux, and Microsoft.

Perhaps their software relies on some software components that are
optimised for windows architecture... or maybe it was part of the
anti-trust settlement.

Either way, for those people who are concerned with their privacy
I would recommend looking at:

http://www.safeweb.com
http://www.gnupg.org

Both are free programs for personal use - I routinely will encrypt
personal correspodence with gpg and pgp equally.

Also, something that struct me in the aftermath of the events on
Tuesday was a recent thread here regarding the security in DC and the
jokes we made about those emails containing enough words to trigger
some kind of alert in the gov't - the timing of that thread could
not have been much worse...

Probably lucky the originator of that thread (ie. me)
is in Australia, and that I was asking about the White
House, not the Pentagon.

Of course, the 'sneaking guns past metal detectors'
thread I started a while back couldn't help either.

*sigh*

When you think about a lot of the stuff you (or I
mostly, it seems) ask innocently enough, in the
context of this attack and its aftermath...
