From the modern military point of view I totally agree with you. But what
about magic that works for the cavalry? the fact that they whole army would
mainly consist of living things would make it easy for a very powerful
magician to make rituals that protect them. Now let's say the new Ghengis Kahn
is not only a very charismatic leader and a good tactician but also a able to
use very powerful magic. There could be something similar to the great ghost
dance which was able to defeat the United-States. Let's say our neo-Ghengis
Kahn makes a great ghost ride. Just think of the spiritpowers concealment and
movement applied to a whole army. Or control the weather - a blinding
sandstorm from behind would take out every sensor. If you take this into
account I would be possible for such an army to conquer a whole continent. (I
don't say that I like this idea 'cause we already had the great ghost dance
and this would be nothing more than a variant. And what about the mana-spike
this would cause. There'll be certain powers that might be willing and able to
stop this. For sure this would cause very *big* trouble.)
