Subject: Centering question
Date: Sat, 8 Nov 1997 20:51:33 +0000
I have a question concerning centering:
One can center agains the penalties, centering down up to the base
TN. Right? So can one center down defaulting penalties? It's only
logical to assume yes. (<grin> Hmmm... I LIKE physads.)

Also I'd assume you can readily center down the penalty for off-hand
shooting, making for a John Woo style physad (well, my new physad has
an Enhanced Centering power, Kiai centering skill and two guns. :> ).

Granted, he may still be less effective than the street sam with an
assault rifle, but hey, it's cinematic!

And while we're talking about two guns - does anybody have an idea
why can't you use laser sights for two-gun shooting? I don't have
any experience with shooting, but while I can imagine that a
smartlink would pose two problems:
a) you need induction pads in both palms
b) There's the problem of two conflicting signals
a laser sight should be useable. (OK, I know about the <fanfares>
Game Balance </fanfares>)
Or, for that matter, a special smartlink (make that 0.8 essence and
higher cost...)

That's hardly a problem...in fact, I'm urprised smartgun systems don't
include two pads so you can use the system with either hand.

>b) There's the problem of two conflicting signals

I'd say this is where the real problem occurs...you can't really be sure
which dot or which reticle is for which gun, which is where the problem
comes in.

IIRC, there was something like this in an adventure hook in Sprawl Sites,
though no game stats were included...but it did mention a flat +2 to all TNs
from the disorientation of two reticles.

As cool as gun fu may be stylistically, the SR rules were written to
discourage it, and trying to do so under them results in a failure to look
cool, and a failure to hit anything.

Well, make a special smartlink. One dot will be a cross, the other
one a circle. Or one dot a horizontal and the other one a vertical
line (try and get a cross). ;>
Of course, no company would probably manufacture such a smartlink,
'cause there's not a big market of two-gun users.

though. And the GM can have his fun with "home modified" cyberware.

Well, if I'm a physad, I don't care about smartlinks. I can run
around screaming (err... centering that is) and shooting the bad guys
with two guns.

No wonder the two-guns-a-blazing guys come mainly from Hong-Kong
action movies... They're physads!

Wanna bet? You just need to shop round better for your hardware. Stay
off the mainland, go to straight to Chiba. Anyhow, *I* have one 'blue'
spot & one 'red' spot and I haven't gotten confused, yet ('course the
Tac Computer in my head helps a bit...).

Oh yes, he definitely did. ;)

I'd say a Tac Comp, or at the very least an Encephalon would be required.

But it could be so much more fun. Get a cyberarm gyromount linked to the
brains of a Sentry gun tied into the user's Tac Comp. Anything marked as a
target gets fired pon by the other arm, leaving him free to acquire and
shoot with the other hand.
