To true (I am a US citizen). US TV news coverage of international
events is sorely lacking. I watch ITN to find out what's going on in
the world (or log on to a news web site that covers international
news). Sometimes I am flabergasted to see something "big" on ITN,
and not even hear a hint of it on the regular news.

And there's an angle for a shadowrun adventure. The runners are
hired to go to such and such a place for a job. Everything they've
heard about the place is fine. But, thanks to US news coverage they
don't know about... <EGMG>.

It's pretty much the same in Australia, too.... Local news gets
precedence over everything else...

The TV stations are just catering to their audience, which says something
pretty poor about the average 'audience' out there.

That's not entirely true

In Australia, you at least know there's an election for a leader in another
part of the world.
Or something similar, all you hear about in the US are US issues.

That's not true. Watch CNN sometimes. You'd be suprised at what you might
see on there. Now, it's true that most americans don't watch CNN. They
watch the local news, probably the national news on one of the majors, but
they watch for what affects them directly. "How does affect me?" is most
American's attitudes. They look at just a little bit of the big picture,
and forget about the rest. Not really a bad way of life, but not really a
good way either.

OK, if you can stand watching CNN 24/7 you can learn of the worlds goings
ons, but who has the time, or patience, hell, I was watching CNN the other
day ALL day and they mainly had TALK shows a-la Oprah winfrey on all day.
The main topic was motherhood.

and yes, it WAS CNN.

Headline news might be a little better.
