Hi folks,

I've a bit of trouble in a game one of my pals is running :) - haven't we
all? My problem is that I play a mentally unstable physad, who got into a
streetfight in renton with a biker gang. My fellow PC and I wiped out
about 7 asses before we heard sirens and decided to take off. Now, thanks
to squealers and the rather impulsive nature of my physad, I've been
targeted for police investigations as they've got my siganture,
fingerprints and my co-PC is rather squaling and will probably be very
helpful to the cop magis with regard to my aura sig :(

Facewise, I can hide. As long as I lie low, no fingerprints should be
going the rounds. But my #"$%$"&$#% aura sig can maybe prove fatal, so
question is, can I in any way mess it up so much apart from polluting it
with cyber, that it becomes significantly more difficult to track/find me?
If no, then I'll just have to hide in an area with high BC :(

Yes, there are a few things you can do, but you need a good mage/shaman
for them. Preferably a full-fledged magician, rather than an adept, 'tho
I admit I'm a bit biased toward full-magicians anyway. :)

First suggestion? Kill the fragger before he can rat you out. Or at least
set things up so that he's no longer a threat to you. (Interpret that as
you will...)

Now, barring that there are other options. The easiest way to astrally
track someone is through a physical link, preferably a DNA/Tissue sample, but
anything uniquely yours with an emotional bond to you will work. This link
can be hidden by an initiated magician who performs an Astral Quest to
hide the link. Which, incidently, brings up an interesting question. What
about multiple Quests to hide the same link? Would a tracking magician have
to defeat them all, or would only the most recent Quest apply? Anyway, if
you have the astral link hidden by a Quest, it'll take an Initiated magician
to track the link (spirits won't be able to), and it'll take some time to do
so, as well.

Watchers can also be used to find someone, if the Watcher's conjurer has
assensed the target's aura. Watchers, however, are notoriously stupid and
easy to fool- or scare off. I don't know how much help an Astral Quest would
be in this situation, but a Ward will be of some help. A Watcher can't pass
through a Ward, but it'll likely go back and report that it was stopped by
one, and where. Solution? Set up some Astral watch-dogs (spells or spirits)
and as soon as a watcher comes for you, MOVE! Watchers are simple-minded
enough that they won't think to report back that they were detected while
tracking you.

Time and distance are your big allies. The Star won't keep searching for
you for too long, so I'd also suggest getting some distance for awhile.
Astral security is very expensive, so use it wisely, and don't use it for
longer than you have to.

The only quick option that I can think of is a 'worm' that
changes your aura. Its mentioned in 'Running Gear', the equipment
list that Gurth edited under 'Better living and dying through
chemistry I think'. Has some very nasty side effects though. :)

Find a nice cave in Australia ought to do it. Possibly a
submarine somewhere. <grin> Don't worry a friend was in the same boat,
save he was missing the DNA sample (hand). The wonders of modern
genetics solved the problem.

It would be pretty stiff for gaming atmosphere to kill a fellow off in
the second session, and it could be that he has some devious scheme
designed for the cops to throw them off my trail. If not, then I'll have
to gather stuff in order to blackmail him :)

True, the astral quest could be useful - only I'm so smallfishy in the
game that either I'd have to owe some biggus favors, or I'll have to
seduce a bigtime mage :)
As with regard to multipe quests, a magi should have to defeat all the
hiding layers, as it firstly would merit multiple quests for hiding
links, and secondly be quite logical - like hiding a key beneath
multiple layers of dirt :)

[interesting advice snipped]

I'll take that advice, lie low and get some distance to the scene of
crime .. As for astral security, the wasted bastards were gangers and the
remaining should not be able to pay enough in bribes in order to make
continued investigations worthwhile for the cops..

Obviously you know the situation better than I do, so if you think that
there's a chance he's trying to help you, of course give him a chance. But
SRII's a dog-eat-dog world, so bite first.
As for blackmail, why bother looking for a vice to blackmail him with?
Give him a vice, and blackmail him with it.

Sneaky- I like that. :)

My thinking, too. Since the Quest takes (Rating)d6 hours, layering two
decent quests could take a couple days, so obviously this isn't something
you'd do often. Not to mention the risk factor involved in AStral Quests.
