I kinda thought the price of the generator was steep too. Then I
tried the program.
After I had to download both it, the drivers, and the other program
from microsoft, I opened up the Explorer, and got to work.
I click Setup, after extracting all the files. It starts popping up
windows in German - GERMAN! I don't like that at all. I don't speak
German, and nor do I wish to. Then this German speaking program pops up
another window, and I, not knowing what the heck it's talking about,
thinking "Well, I clicked Set up, that that must be what it's doing..."
and press Okay. Ha! it restarts my computer, losing seven pages of a
story I was writing and three Megs of graphics! What fun!
So finally I get everything back up, and feeling game, try Setup
again, and it goes fine. After three tries of starting the darn thing,
and opening every program that's in it's directory, I remember that
"Doh! I also had to downlad another program for this thing which has
already earned my ire.
So I open that, and lo and behold, I have to restart again. So I do
that. Finally, I open the program, after having to register dlls and a
bunch of other foolish things. Hey! It works! Oh damn! No it
doesn't! Oh well, I have time, restart computer. Okay....does it work
now? Hrm. Now? Nope. Well shoot.
Finally, after seven tries, I get it to work. I make a character,
which takes about 30 minutes total of me figuring out the interface and
what NOT to push in this thing.
I save it, and it saves to an HTML file. Wow, lots of tables. But,
all in all, pretty neat, except I couldn't add skills very easily and it
didn't like me to type things much. And sometimes things that I
could've sworn I'd entered were nowhere to be found.
End result? Is it worth $50? No. Not by a long shot. Maybe $25.
*Maybe* It's a lot of work, and nicely laid out, and fairly simple to
get the hang of. Anf the registry keys are easy to get around, if I
were going to be an ass and kust work around them. With a little work,
I could crack it, but I only use my powers for good. Everyone's gotta
make a living.
I still recommend Paolo's SRCG. It doesn't crash much, there's been
more than one bug fix, and heck, I know him. So there you go. This is
okay, but I can't see paying $50 for all that hassle.

My only problem with it is that My computer crashed and I didn't (I
know...) make a backup of the SRCG. By the time I got my computer up,
the site was down. Now I can't get it and there's no hint yet when the
site'll be back up....

If you can wait till tomorrow sometime, I should have a copy of
Paolo's SRCG somewhere around here from when I archived my stuff about
a year ago for college... I don't have installed at the moment,
though, so I'll have to spend some time hunting through disks...
especially frustrating since I can't use a disk drive without swapping
out my CD drive and all those files are zipped... But let me now and
I'll hunt it down.
