Couldn't think of where else to mail it, so I sent it to Shadowrun.

I've just been wondering where you other maniacs get character ideas. And
I don't just mean for Shadowrun. Also what are your favorite characters, for
any game.

Some of mine;

Scorpian; my Hispanic physical adept. Inspired by anything with Errol Flynn,
the Costner Robin Hood, Zorro and the Cisco Kid.

Laughing Jack; a Marvel Superheroes character, a demon/angel cross-breed and
compleatly insane (but in a fun way).

Grimjack; my favorite free spirit. Very little combat power and very annoying,
but I've always liked him. (Oh yeah if anyone can tell me where the name is
from I'd appreciate it. I think it was a comic but I've forgotten.)

Rasputin the mad monk; a chaotic neutral priest for a Dragonlance campaign,
a drunk and a brawler and a complete lunatic, nicknamed him Dizzy (god I loved
that guy)

Oh well, just some rambling on my part.

I usually find myself playing techies of one type or another. In
Shadowrun I take a lot of Electronics and Computer related skills. As for
other games, I've played a RIFTS Operator, and in AD&D-style fantasy I
usually play Theives (somehow, that really does fit.)
Its only in the past few years that I've started role-playing the
characters more. For me, its easier to take a major aspect of my
personality and make a few slight adjustments for the campaign world than
it is to come up with something totally new. That way, the character
doesn't change dramatically between gaming sessions, totally dependent on
my mood.
Then I'll come up with interesting backgrounds, and buy items
accordingly. My current character was part of a gang in San Francisco
calling themselves the Anarchistic Taser Terrorists, and even though he
has drifted away from them (he matured; they didn't -- it matches a part
of my real life), he still perfers to use non-lethal electrical weapons
such as the stun baton.
I'm thinking that if I or my GM can afford to get ShadowBeat soon,
I'll take something from that, exploring the reporter's insticts in me
(something I haven't been able to role-play before.)

For a long time I played characters a lot like me, but for
some reason Shadowrun seems to bring out the weirdo in me...
my long-time character is a maniac. He's a Cambodian
physical adept who went slighly nuts at the same time he
became magically active- that time being when his unit was
hit by the outer edge of a tac nuke. He's a wee bit unstable
and switches moods and personalities on the spur of the
moment, usually to imitate whoever seems to be best at
dealing with the current situation. He also likes to kill
people with his bare hands, a habit which causes me to burn
karma on rerolls at a truly prodigious rate.

My latest character, one who I'm really fond of, is a
rastafarian wolf shamam. It's a bit of a trip for a suburban
white atheist to play. But fun.

I tend to play jack-of-all-trades types of character. Bards in AD&D,
characters with lots of mid-level skills in Shadowrun, guys with a
smattering of everything in Champions. To play one focussed character
seems far too limiting, to me.

Just a thought, but is there any archetype that corresponds to the
##&# monk in shadowrun.
Druids? (Don't have the Grimthingy YET)

Thanks ----
Will

Never seen a druid character but I'm getting the Grimthingy SOON.

I play the unquie character races. Like the troll in shadowrun, werewolf in
gurps, Blanka in street fighter 2, Gen-sai in samurai showdown, etc.

If I was playing the storyteller system I would play a human. In essence I
play the races that are least common.

What kind of monk are you talking about: Benedictine? Franciscan?
Jesuit?(Do they have monks at all?) 'Fantasy style kick butt type' monk?
What?

If the three first are what you are looking for I have never seen any,
if you are looking for the 'fantasy......' you might want to check out
the physical adept.

My first-ever SR character was basically me placed in 2050. He acted the
way I would, and so on. No big deals there.
My second character is a bit of a cross between a rigger and a samurai.
He started out as an elven rigger, but I kept adding cyber- and bioware,
so he has now virtually become a sammie with a VCR instead of wired
reflexes. He's a it over the top, but I like it that way. I don't think I
based him on any character from books or movies (at least not
conciously). He is totally different than I am (maybe he's what I want to
be -- self-psychology time now).
My other character (I play two) is a woman physical adept. When I took a
look at her description a few days ago, I noticed that I'd created myself
again, but then as a woman...
