Worth knowing. So when I key Alt+0174 everyone will get the registered
trademark ® symbol; and important characters like my vulgars and my
superscript numbers are likewise intact, but my TM and my "smart quotes" are
out.

I do see an R in a circle, yes. I'm not sure how well this works with
subsets of the ISO-8859 specs, though, as these differ in some characters
(for example, 8859-1 has characters for western European languages, but
8859-2 is for eastern European ones using the Latin alphabet, while 8859-10
is Hebrew, just to name a few I can remember off the top of my head).

Yes. At least, if you want everyone to be able to read them :)

Actually, I might suggest that the trademark symbol is out, too. To me it
looks like

depending on how I view it. Neither is exactly correct ;-).
