There was recently a discussion about how the bugs had been removed
from Chicago. Now, I recently purchased R2, and found an interesting
little sentence on one of the drones...

Pratt & Whitney Sundowner Aerial Sprayer, P.105:

"The design gained nototiety recently when Ares Macrotechnology used
several Sundowners to disperse the Strain III virus over the Chicago
Containment Zone."

It sounds like part of the solution to that question, and there's no
longer need for speculation wether Strain III had been used.

I'm a bit confused; how do you go about spreading an astral entity with a
physical device?

I thought Strain III was a type of FAB, so they are spreading the
bacteria.

The name "FAB Strain III" is a misnomer, Strain III is not FAB, it's not
even a bacteria. Strain III is more like an astral virus of sorts, it has
no physical components and can only affect dual-natured critters and
objects (and astral perceiving magicians don't, going by the book, but
astrally projecting mage-boys and -girls are fair game). If you can,
you'll want to check the last chapter in "Threats" for this info.

So why not suspend Strain III in a regular FAB-lined container?
It'll contain the Strain III for a while (until the Strain III
can eat through the stuff), and you just have to make sure that
the drone is over Chicago when that happens.

On second thought, why not just cast a Mana Barrier on the
drone? Won't affect the drone's operation any...

But don't read the story because it is so unbelievable. I've been
meaning to do a debunking treatment on the story. Since I liked the idea
of Strain III, I was going to have a more sinister origin for it. FASA
using it in Target: UCAS makes Strain III a reality so I won't write the
story off as a hoax.

Campaign plot -> Find out who posted the bogus story about Strain
III since it really does exist.

They make sure that the water that is coming from the fire hose is full of
all sorts of live bacteria and stuff, so that the bacteria moving in the
water sort of pushes the astral entity in the general direction they want
it to go.

The same way you catch a projecting mage with FAB. It says they used
really sludgeywater, with enough life to stopp the Strain # from getting
away. And i think a amage said the water looked funny. I think they
"lured" the strain 3 to some tanks with a magical treat (like a water
elemental) and the tanks were full of water that had a bit of a
background count, or maybe just a lot of normal FAB and other life in
it. The Strain III won't have reason to leave, so if you act fast, you
can move the stuff and spray it like normal water.
